Job Description
The Food Service Worker will:
Provide timely, efficient and accurate patient tray line setup and patient meal assembly.
Provide courteous and timely set-up and service in the cafeteria, at the cashier stations and for catered events.

Maintain the sanitation and cleanliness of the service ware, pots, pans, equipment and work and service areas. Operate the dish machine for service ware sanitation.

Operate cash register accurately with no over rings or shortages. Ensure that cash drawer has proper level of cash, obtaining additional change as necessary.
Refill coffee urns, juice and milk dispensers as needed and stocks cafeteria with various food and non-food items as needed including donuts, fruit, silverware, condiments, paper products and the like.
Follow safe food handling practices, maintain food items at appropriate temperatures and follow established storage practices. Sustain a sanitary work environment according to health standards and Department policies.
Assist patients as necessary in providing or making daily meal selections.
Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of SRAlab.

Responsibilities:
When Assigned to Patient Trayline:
* Prepares, fills, sets up, works and cleans assigned station for tray assembly each meal.
* Dishes out servings according to menu. Use appropriate scoops and ladles.
* Prepares between-meal nourishments and tube feedings using proper methods and follows standardized recipes.

This position has various start times: 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. and 12:15 p.m. - 8:45 p.m.

Under direct supervision of the Assistant Supervisors and Nutrition and Food Service Supervisor of the unit to which assigned, assists in preparation, serving and distribution of patient and/or employee meals and nourishments; works in dishroom and assists in cleaning duties as assigned. Is respectful and works cooperatively with others. Performs other inherent duties related to but not limited to the following.
Responsibilities:
When Assigned to Patient Trayline:
Prepares, fills, sets up, works and cleans assigned station for tray assembly each meal.
Dishes out servings according to menu. Use appropriate scoops and ladles.
Prepares between-meal nourishments and tube feedings using proper methods and follows standardized recipes.
Completes and follows Computrition work sheets as required.
Follows posted job routine schedule.
Properly operates and cleans all tray line/nourishment area equipment.
Sweeps and mops all tray line, nourishment and cart storage area floors.
Maintains high standards of cleanliness, safety and sanitation.
When Assigned to Patient Tray/Nourishment Delivery:
Transports food and late tray carts to designated floors.
Returns food and late tray carts to kitchen area at appropriate times.
Delivers patient nourishment orders, late food trays, and department stock orders to patients, nursing station or designated unit. Signs off on appropriate documents.
Stocks nursing pantries with food supplies and documents amounts as assigned. Documents refrigerator temperatures. Rotates products as needed. Reports problems when noted.
Delivers late trays to patient rooms, properly identifies patients and practices friendly customer service.
When Assigned to Cafeteria:
Assembles, cooks and/or serves food as ordered.
Replenishes entrees and/or supplies as necessary.
Operates cash register as required.
Cleans counters, tables and equipment as necessary.
Follows posted job schedule.
Practices friendly customer service.
When Assigned to Dish room:
Dismantles and cleans patient food and late tray carts and cafeteria trays.
Scrapes and loads dishes into dish machine; removes dishes from machine after washing cycle.
Sorts and distributes clean china, silverware, etc., to proper area.
Operates and cleans dish machine and mulcher as assigned.
Collects and transports garbage, and cardboard to compactor or dock area.
Cleans counters and floors in dishroom, hallway and cafeteria tray loading area and uses appropriate signs as needed.
Uses all chemicals in the tray line and dish room area appropriately. Follows MSDS, HMRC and standard precautions.
Uses safe sanitary procedures when handling clean china, utensils, pots, etc.
Other Duties
Attends all mandatary inservices including annual safety reviews.
Projects a customer-friendly image when dealing with all internal and external parties.
Follows all Policies and Procedures.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
No formal education required but must be able to communicate verbally, to read and write English in order to understand instructions; menus, daily job descriptions etc.
May have to do basic mathematical computations when working the cash register
Job consists of simple functions which can be learned on the job within one month.

Function / Position Summary
Responsible for all duties related to the receiving, storage (food & supplies) and preparation of meal/snacks daily. Adheres to the National School Breakfast, Lunch, Snack and Supper program guidelines and requirements in accordance with Federal, State and Local regulations. Provides excellent customer service to all stakeholders. May be required to leave the main work site on occasion for meetings & training. Maintain confidentiality within the school, district and community.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
Maintains a clean, sanitary, and organized workspace at all times.
Responsible for the proper handling of all food and supplies.
Maintains a required system of accountability.
Performs and documents temperature and sanitation checks as required by law.
Prepares weekly projections to order food and supplies for menus.
Utilizes correct measuring and serving utensils to ensure accurate meal portioning as specified by district policy.
Ensures dishwashing is ongoing and completed to meet district sanitation expectations at all times.
Ability to operate a cash register, make change accurately, balance and close in a timely matter (when assigned).

Education
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Must possess a valid Certified Professional Food Manager Certification, previously known as sanitation certificate. Certificate shall be obtained by the start of the second school term of employment.
Bilingual-Spanish/English (written & verbal) preferred.
Experience / Knowledge
Hold a State of Illinois Food Handler card and demonstrate specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job which includes. If Certification is not current, must be able to obtain within 30 days of employment
Minimum of one (1) years' experience cashiering, customer service, cafeteria line server or related field, preferred.
Ability to successfully complete required written documentation.
Ability to verbally communicate.
Responsible for checking and responding to work related emails in a timely manner.
Physical Demands
Ability to work in a very fast paced and stressful environment.
Ability to stand for long periods
Ability to assist in lifting 50 pounds.
Ability to withstand daily demands of lifting, bending and pushing heavy carts.
Ability to withstand going in and out of freezers, refrigerators and storage areas.
Wears appropriate uniform and shoes as required.
Terms of Employment
This is a ten (10) month position. Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education.
Maintain a positive attendance record as specified in FNS Department Handbook & SEIU contract.
Must be able to adhere to all Blackout dates according to the Food and Nutrition Calendar.
Must complete all FNS and District mandated GCN tutorials, monthly safety training, and department sponsored training per USDA requirements by their due dates.
Attend all back to school and professional development meetings/trainings as required.
