Create weekly lesson plans that includes a variety of safe age-appropriate activities to keep campers and staff active, excited, and engaged. Overall responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the program. Assign Camp Counselors activities and other responsibilities according to the weekly lesson plans. Assign Camp Counselors to groups for field trip and pool day outings. Maintain accurate records, including attendance, daily tracking camper tracking forms, accident/incident forms and other relevant information. Lead field trips out of camp and instruct Camp Counselors and campers in crisis management protocol. Maintain a safe and fun learning environment for campers, following safety procedures in emergencies. Manage behavior issues, paying attention to the social and emotional safety of each child. Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment, and facilities. Act as the main point of contact for parents/guardians. Resolve concerns of parents or staff in day-to-day events and general camp opportunities. Maintain good public relations with campers' parents and the community. Ensure compliance with all camp and Park District policies and procedures. Must attend all required trainings and meetings. Submit all required reports on time. These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned, and other duties may be assigned as required. Abilities to observe camper and staff behavior/disciplinary issues, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques. Ability to identify and respond to hazards. Ability to communicate and work with different age and skill levels, and to provide the necessary instruction to campers and/or staff. Cognitive and communication ability to plan and conduct camp program to achieve camper development objectives. Ability to drive 15-passenger vans and to observe the loading and unloading of vehicles utilized by camp, if required. Qualifications Qualifications Must have a current CPR and First Aid Certificate or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire. At least 18 years of age, 21 preferred. At least two years' experience in a day camp environment or an equivalent of education and experience. Demonstrated leadership in team and group activities.
