The Medical Interpreter serves as a cultural and linguistic resource to both patients and providers by facilitating the successful delivery of patient care service to a linguistically diverse population. In this role the interpreter participates as a neutral party or as the conduit for information that must flow between Carle staff, and Limited English Proficiency (LEP) patients and/or their care providers.
Qualifications

Responsibilities
Facilitates communication between Carle staff and LEP patients in variety of modalities including in person, over the phone and video relay. Ensures that information pertaining to the patient's outpatient services, hospitalization, (i.e. advance directives, consents from treatment, diagnosis and prognosis, treatment plan, follow-up appointments and Health Care Education) are accurately communicated. Successfully complete the core Interpreter Services training requirements. Represent Interpreter Services and the organization in a positive and professional manner, exercising discretion at all times. Participate in on call coverage to provide interpretation services during non-business hours and business hours as assigned. Maintain confidentiality in all matters related to patient care and visitor issues with LEP patients and their caregivers/families/escorts. Promote customer satisfaction related to Carle services; notify Supervisor of any issues that may be problematic for patients or Carle staff. Participate in continuing education programs and competency training to enhance professional role of Interpreter Services.

Research, order, scan, and geo-reference hydrographic and topographic sources, supporting textual sources, and commercial imagery to enhance toponymic and geographic accuracy. Georeferenced maps and imagery must be conflated with the GNDB. Spelling and other metadata shall be verified.
Interpret and apply policies governing the treatment of names as well as general guidelines emanating from the BGN, the Department of State (DoS), North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NA TO) and other related organizations.
Research using ArcGIS Pro and QGIS software as well as common office business software ( e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, and internet browsers) and utilize internet and other general research tools. Sources regularly used include: native maps, secondary source maps, historic maps used for extraction and comparison, textual documents, Internet sources and imagery at various resolutions. Services will result in the creation of shapefiles, geo-databases, and data retrieval/storage.
Research and recommend native maps or data for acquisition to use as new source material for production. This includes identifying the producer of the native map or data and where to obtain it.
Provide foreign translation as necessary to support the Office of Geography and Mission.

**The Work** The Legal Translator will play a vital role in delivering high-quality translation services for legal documents. This flexible, as-needed position will collaborate with a dedicated team while ensuring accuracy, cultural sensitivity, and confidentiality in every project.
This position performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of Cayuse.
**Responsibilities**
**Key Responsibilities**
+ Translate legal documents such as letters, reports, website content, brochures, posters, and correspondence while maintaining the content's accuracy, tone, and meaning.
+ Depict cultural sensitivity and create clear, accurate translations that meet legal standards.
+ Edit and proofread translated documents for clarity, consistency, accuracy, and adherence to legal terminology.
+ Conduct a quality review and proofreading process as assigned to maintain high standards.
+ Follow client-specific style guides, glossaries, and translation preferences.
+ Ensure strict confidentiality and security of all translated materials.
+ Stay informed on current legal terminology, best practices, and industry updates.
+ Other duties as assigned
**Qualifications**
**Qualifications - Here's What You Need**
+ High School Diploma and 4+ years of experience.
+ Fluency in Portuguese
+ Must have one of the following certifications:
+ Legal Translation online certifications
+ CTP (Certified Translation Professional)
+ ATA (American Translators Association)
+ AOC (Administrative Office of the Court)
+ Membership to NAJIT ( National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators)
+ Experience working in:
+ State Department
+ Refugees
+ Court/ Legal setting
+ Familiarity with Legal Terminology
+ Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.
**Minimum Skills Required:**
+ Strong problem-solving skills and a sharp attention to detail.
+ Exceptional written communication skills in both English
+ A sense of urgency in responding to client needs effectively.
+ The ability to work independently while collaborating with team members as needed.
+ A self-starter mindset with capability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor's degree in a foreign language, linguistics or a related field.
+ Experience with legal or professional publications.
**Reports to: Program Manager**
**Working Conditions**
+ This position is on-call on a as needed basis. Interpreters will be notified within 48 hours of potential jobs.
+ This position requires Legal Translation within the Washington State.
+ Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties extended periods of time.
+ May be asked to work a flexible schedule which may include holidays.
+ May be asked to work hours outside of normal business hours.
