Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Engineering is responsible for the successful execution of the company's business strategy through development, deployment, and performance of all engineering & automation related strategies. This role will lead the Jack Link's Engineering team to develop automation projects in collaboration with manufacturing plants and distribution centers and other functions/colleagues and will also provide hands-on support for implementation.
The Director will be a thought leader, responsible for driving a culture of innovation to stay ahead of competitors and develop cutting-edge improvements for the organization. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage, direct, and support the Engineering team by providing strategic guidance, best practices, leadership, and mentoring.
Lead the team to develop automation projects in collaboration with sites and other functions/colleagues and will also provide hands-on support for implementation as needed.
Work closely with operations leadership and stakeholders in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support engineering and automation-oriented solutions to optimize business processes and overall company performance.
Responsible for driving a culture of innovation to stay ahead of competitors and develop cutting edge improvements for the organization from both a short-term and long-term basis.
Responsible for the development of engineering vision and ensuring it is appropriately applied to capital projects, plant modifications or other enhancements.
Manage large, complex projects and initiatives, deal with ambiguity and be responsible for embracing Jack Link's commitment to customers, customer service and sales.
Support manufacturing and operations by providing strategic direction and tactical support. Troubleshoot day-to-day issues, assigning team members as necessary to provide comprehensive solutions.

Ensure that process automation activities are handled in accordance with current regulations governing safety, environmental protection, energy conservation, quality and other regulatory requirements.
Manage installation of complex and large-scale automation projects including the development of SOWs, testing and acceptance criteria, and project management of construction.
Travel is approximately 35% and as needed to lead and support engineering vision at plants and distribution centers.

The salary range for this role is $
200,000 - $230,000
(Annually). Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, location, and candidate skill set and experience. What you'll do as the Director, Corporate Engineering:
As the Director of Corporate Engineering, you will serve as the senior leader responsible for engineering excellence across all IP Corporation business segments and multiple U.S. manufacturing plants. Project Engineering

Ensure alignment with all applicable codes, standards, and RAGAGEP requirements.
General Leadership & Management
Partner closely with executive leadership to ensure alignment on engineering strategy, priorities, and resource planning.

SunOpta is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead and enhance engineering and technical operations across our network of seven production plants. This role is instrumental in driving innovation, optimizing production processes, and enhancing the overall efficiency and sustainability of our operations.
Reporting directly to the SVP Food Safety, Innovation and Engineering, the Director of Engineering will be responsible for setting engineering strategies, managing the capital project portfolio, and implementing best-in-class manufacturing and technical capabilities and practices that align with SunOpta's mission to deliver high-quality, sustainable, plant-based products.
Essential Functions of the Job:
Leadership & Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive engineering strategy that supports operational excellence across seven plants. Provide direction and guidance to plant-level engineering teams, fostering a collaborative network-wide approach.
Capital Project Management: Lead, plan, and execute major capital projects to support growth and efficiency goals, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
Continuous Improvement: Drive a culture of continuous improvement by identifying, developing, and implementing process improvements and automation initiatives. Champion Lean and Six Sigma practices to maximize productivity and reduce waste. Partnership with our CI/Ops Transformation/Quality/PMO teams, playing a key leadership role in our operational transformation.
Technical Support & Troubleshooting: Act as the lead engineering expert to solve technical issues, identify root causes, and ensure equipment and processes meet SunOpta's quality and safety standards.
Sustainability & Compliance: Work with sustainability and regulatory teams to align engineering projects with SunOpta's goals and comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Team Development:
Hire, train, and lead plant engineering teams to encourage talent growth and promote effective collaboration and innovation within the organization.
Collaborates with senior leadership and human resources to support organizational structure, ensuring roles are accurately organized, defined, documented, and communicated to employees.
Outside Contractor Leadership:
May oversee contracted projects to ensure they meet specifications.
May obtain bids from contractors, purchase supplies and equipment, and manage utility operations.
May prepare construction specs or plans, consult engineers, review contract bids, and submit recommendations to supervisors.
Ensure effective safety procedures and record keeping are managed through site leadership.
Adheres/ensures team's adherence to company GMP's (good manufacturing practices), safety procedures and all other quality processes.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Direct reports include regional capital project engineer and regional controls and automation engineer.
Leads and mentors indirect reports across the network, providing feedback on performance and potential for various roles.
In-direct reports- Plant, project, controls, processing, and packaging engineers work at aseptic and fruit snack plants and may oversee contracted projects or manage external contractors.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's of Engineering degree - Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial or related Technology discipline.
10+ years of experience in engineering, with at least 5 years in leadership.
Demonstrated expertise in leading / managing capital projects & leading continuous improvement initiatives in a manufacturing environment.
Experience leading a team of engineers in the food/beverage production or consumer product sectors.
Proficiency in Lean, Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies.
Proficiency using & mentoring on DFM, FMEA, SPC tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
Aseptic, beverage or thermal processing experience.
Master's Degree in Engineering - Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial or related Technology discipline.
Experienced with multi-plant, national network.
Familiar with sustainability practices in a manufacturing environment.
Proven ability to work cross-functionally and influence across multiple levels of the organization.
Knowledge and Skills:
Candidate must possess a strong working knowledge of electrical, chemical and mechanical functions associated with plant engineering.

Project leadership:
Ability to manage/oversee/lead multiple projects concurrently.

Additional Considerations:
This role requires flexibility to travel to SunOpta plant locations as needed, providing hands-on leadership and support across our network. Travel Expectation: Up to 50% during critical project activities.
This position will be at our SunOpta headquarters facility in Eden Prairie, MN.

Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Engineering is responsible for the successful execution of the company's business strategy through development, deployment, and performance of all engineering & automation related strategies. This role will lead the Jack Link's Engineering team to develop automation projects in collaboration with manufacturing plants and distribution centers and other functions/colleagues and will also provide hands-on support for implementation.
The Director will be a thought leader, responsible for driving a culture of innovation to stay ahead of competitors and develop cutting-edge improvements for the organization. This key leader will also be responsible for the development of our technological vision and ensuring it is appropriately applied to capital projects, plant modifications or other enhancements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage, direct, and support the Engineering team by providing strategic guidance, best practices, leadership, and mentoring.
Lead the team to develop automation projects in collaboration with sites and other functions/colleagues and will also provide hands-on support for implementation as needed.
Work closely with operations leadership and stakeholders in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support engineering and automation-oriented solutions to optimize business processes and overall company performance.
Responsible for driving a culture of innovation to stay ahead of competitors and develop cutting edge improvements for the organization from both a short-term and long-term basis.
Responsible for the development of engineering vision and ensuring it is appropriately applied to capital projects, plant modifications or other enhancements.
Manage large, complex projects and initiatives, deal with ambiguity and be responsible for embracing Jack Link's commitment to customers, customer service and sales.
Support manufacturing and operations by providing strategic direction and tactical support. Troubleshoot day-to-day issues, assigning team members as necessary to provide comprehensive solutions.
Collaborate with the plant network on development and implementation of strategy for application of advanced automation and continuous improvement of automated systems in alignment with business value and network needs and priorities.
Ensure that process automation activities are handled in accordance with current regulations governing safety, environmental protection, energy conservation, quality and other regulatory requirements.
Manage installation of complex and large-scale automation projects including the development of SOWs, testing and acceptance criteria, and project management of construction.
Travel is approximately 35% and as needed to lead and support engineering vision at plants and distribution centers.
Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Industrial, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum 10 years' experience in manufacturing engineering (food industry preferred), process automation and optimization.
5+ years of experience with CPG related robotics and automation solutions with a track record of successful implementations.
Experience in CPG manufacturing and USDA regulations in the industry is preferred.
Experience in Lean Six Sigma, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), and AGILE development.
Excellent Excel and Smartsheet skills including report creation from large datasets and multiple data sources.
Proficiency in CAD or similar software.
Demonstrated ability to drive change and process improvement.
Strong analytical decision making, influence and communication skills.
Additional Information
The salary range for this role is $
200,000 - $230,000
(Annually). Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, location, and candidate skill set and experience. Base pay is just one component of Jack Link's Total Rewards package for Team Members. Other rewards may include annual incentive and program-specific awards.
