ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Instruction * Assists in the planning and implementation of lab activities (solution preparation, setting up lab equipment for students to perform lab exercise) under the direction and guidance of the assigned classroom teacher. * Works with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned program activities. * Assists students with special needs in all aspects of classroom lab instruction to maximize inclusion, learning, and achievement of Individual Education Plans (IEP) objectives. * Maintains clean, safe, and organized departmental laboratory storerooms. * Maintains a current inventory of all science lab materials and equipment. * Assists with managing equipment during summer school and/or school camp. Classroom Management * Assists with classroom behavioral management to prevent and address disruptions, to ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and to ensure students are on task. * Accompanies students on field trips for the purpose of assisting with supervision. Logistics * Constructs, distributes, copies and uses educational materials as needed. * Assists professional staff in the administration and correction of classroom exercises, tests and assessments. * Assists with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance. * Submits and tracks required paperwork for equipment requiring repair, maintenance, and/or replacement. * Receives equipment and supplies following District guidelines, and stores it properly. * Follows all District and state guidelines for storage, use, and disposal of chemicals. * Assists in maintaining Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) on all chemicals. * Attends yearly Hazardous Communication Training provided by the District.
