Each State’s Favorite Mother’s Day Brunch Food

Favorite Mother's Day Brunch Foods by State

Mother’s Day is a cherished occasion, and what better way to celebrate than with a delicious brunch? With the surge in online searches for brunch dishes and restaurants gearing up for a bustling day, it’s clear that brunch holds a special place in the hearts of many.

But not all brunch items are equally popular. To find out what dishes moms across the United States prefer on their special day, we analyzed data to identify each state’s favorite brunch food.

The findings? Forget the elaborate Pinterest recipes; it turns out that many moms prefer hearty, meaty options for Mother’s Day brunch.

Fun Findings

  • A notable 21 states have meat as their favorite brunch food.
  • Sausage reigns supreme, being the favored breakfast meat in 13 states, followed closely by bacon in 8 states.
  • Moms in New York opt for oatmeal. Sorry, New York!
  • Don’t forget the syrup! Pancakes are a hit, chosen by 5 states.
  • Only New Hampshire champions waffles as the best brunch dish.
  • However, 4 states agree that when you add chicken to waffles, they become the ultimate choice.
  • As essential as syrup? Alcohol.
  • Idaho, Maine, Vermont, and Wisconsin moms prefer Bloody Marys, while Montana moms enjoy mimosas.

How We Determined This

Using Google Trends, we analyzed the brunch foods that each state searches for most frequently. We defined brunch foods as common breakfast items and drinks that show high search volume and menu presence. From this data, we identified which foods are disproportionately popular in each state.

For instance, while Wyoming enjoys a variety of brunch foods, the search interest in “Biscuits and gravy” is notably higher than in any other state, making it a Wyoming favorite.

Some contentious decisions were made, such as considering orange juice and other beverages as brunch food. However, search volume doesn’t lie—anyone who has brunched knows that sometimes mimosas steal the spotlight. Just ask Montana.

We examined data from Mother’s Day 2020 to determine what was trending in each state, a peak time for restaurant and recipe searches. Changes in preferences for this year will only be revealed after Mother’s Day, but we can bet that sausage and a refreshing drink will continue to delight moms for years to come.

Turn That Frown Sunnyside… Or Don’t

While some may view Mother’s Day as simply a greeting card holiday, for others, it serves as a vital reminder to appreciate the mothers in their lives.

What better way to show your love than with scrumptious brunch options? We hope this list inspires you to find a delightful brunch spot or helps you plan your menu for the day.

Keep in mind that Mother’s Day is one of the busiest days of the year for restaurants. Be sure to make a reservation early, or you might end up at Che McDonalds—thankfully, they serve breakfast all day!
