How hard is it to become an HR manager?

By Zippia Team - Nov. 2, 2021

It is not hard to become an HR manager. The easiest way to become a human resources manager is by holding a bachelor's degree in human resources (HR) and having at least a few years of experience working in human resources.

While human resources manager qualifications are not hard and fast, most follow the general path of gaining education rather than experience.

Most people who become human resources managers have gone through courses in business school at colleges and universities. They may have a degree directly related to human resources, or they may have studied business with concentrations in human resources.

Once they receive their degree, a person begins working in human resources to build experience. A human resources manager should have at least one year of experience but generally should expect to work for three to five years before moving into the position.

While it is not a requirement for human resource management, certification from a college or recognized human resources organization will significantly enhance your chances of landing the position you seek. Like your degree, these certifications can be specialized, varying in topics and areas of interest.
