Public Safety Dispatchers operate phone and radio communications equipment to provide 9-1-1 emergency services and non-emergency assistance for ten law enforcement, twenty fire and six ambulance services in Benton County. They are responsible for processing incoming calls, providing pre-arrival instructions to callers, and dispatching the appropriate responding agencies. Personnel work shifts that include working nights, weekends, holidays and are subject to change in order to meet the needs of the Communications Center and its operational needs. Regular, reliable attendance, managing multiple duties and responsibilities simultaneously, being a team player in a challenging, high-stress work environment, and getting along well with others are essential elements of this position. The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority's (MNAA) selection process can be lengthy, based on the position, and as such a candidate may anticipate this process to last up to three (3) months. Job Summary: The Public Safety Dispatcher is responsible for performing dispatch functions for Airport Police and Fire, airport surveillance, monitoring access control systems, receiving calls, querying criminal databases, and conducting day to day administrative tasks in the Nashville International Airport's 24-hour Airport Communications Center.
Essential Job Duties:
Monitors all radio traffic.
Uses electronic equipment including the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Metro Automated Records Management System (ARMS) to determine vehicle registration, criminal history, warrants, stolen property, gun files, and emergency notifications.
Dispatches personnel to investigate complaints, security infractions, and reported emergency and medical situations.
Obtains complete, accurate, and appropriate information from calling party regarding emergency and non-emergency situations, and uses this information to write call summaries.
Assists with on-the-job-training for new employees.
Monitors fire alarm panel, security infractions, severe weather, fuel issues access control system, and other emergency and non-emergency systems.
Evaluates and properly classifies initial calls/requests for assistance, and notifies all pertinent personnel as needed.
Maintains communication throughout emergency situations, including with field units and callers, local emergency and law enforcement departments, airport personnel, and Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower.
Gives assignments and directions to staff and emergency personnel following established procedures.
Dispatches Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) emergency units to an accident scene or aircraft emergencies and saves video footage as required.
Uses the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) system, Public Address (PA) system, Telecommunications Device for the Deaf (TDD) system, and instant replay recording devices.
Maintains a daily log of all incidents, via Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) software.
Keeps abreast to changes in policy, methods, operations, and equipment needs to meet departmental needs.
Disseminates information via the Automated Emergency Notification System to appropriate notification groups.
Activates the emergency recall plan when required.
Disseminates severe weather forecast information to airport tenants.
Informs appropriate personnel of reported or observed airport/airfield maintenance problems and conditions.
Summaries information for broadcasting.
Utilizes the badging system as necessary and after normal business hours.

911 Dispatcher

Under the supervision of the Customer Solutions Center Manager the Interfacility/911 Dispatcher will be responsible for pre-dispatching vehicles for the next day. During this pre-assignment they will be responsible to ensure there are adequate resources to meet the call volume scheduled including a pre-determined overflow volume.
The dispatcher will receive phone calls from out of state 911, hospital nursing floors, outpatient satellites, and private residences with request for transportation. Dispatchers will assign called to ambulance units based on level of care (BLS&ALS) efficiently and accurately.
Dispatcher will at times need to re-arrange calls that are preassigned in case of vehicular breakdowns, traffic, and ASAP call requests. The dispatcher will be responsible for utilizing TraumaSoft to assign the trips to the vehicles based on the crew members scheduled and ensure that the vehicles have adequate time with the assigned calls to meet specified customers' needs and response standards.
The Dispatcher while pre-dispatching for the next day may will be in close consultation with management to call in staff earlier for their next day shift and or additional staff for more shifts to ensure they can pre-dispatch the transports to the vehicles without inhibiting customer service and or required response performance standards.
At times, the dispatcher will act as a call-taker/communicator.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High school graduation or equivalent.
Experience: Two years of work or volunteer experience, where public contact via telephone, computer use and data entry were part of the responsibilities; or a college degree can substitute for the two years of work experience.
Desirable Qualifications: Work experience preferably in a customer service or public relations environment and the ability to speak and understand English for effective communication with callers. Ability to speak a foreign language is a bonus. An outgoing, positive personality and professional work ethic is essential. The desire and willingness to be part of a team.

Work Environment:
Incumbents function in a stressful environment and work eight and twelve hour shifts during nights, weekends and holidays. Telecommunicators can be required to work mandatory overtime. Decisions must be made quickly with little margin of error and consequences are usually seen immediately. Work involves operation of multiple computer terminals, requiring doing several things at once, without getting confused or forgetting an important piece of information. Constant attention to the workstation and its communications equipment limits mobility, except for work breaks. Telecommunicators must conduct themselves with a high degree of professionalism despite frequent contact with individuals who are distraught, angry and sometimes disrespectful. The content and nature of many calls is traumatic and disturbing. Work is carried out in a secured 9-1-1 emergency call center in a controlled, closely supervised, and highly structured work environment.
