Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position. Duties & Responsibilities Technicians will survey insect and plant communities across conservation plantings in North Dakota. This research is unique in its large geographic scope and seeks to provide information about the ecological value of conservation plantings. Technicians will be trained in the following techniques: Daytime and nighttime insect surveys Floral surveys and Vegetation cover surveys Field identification of plants Insect processing (pinning, labeling) Data management/entry Typical challenges associated with working in grasslands and agricultural lands do apply. Expect to deal with wide ranging weather conditions, intense sun, mosquitoes, ticks, and long days working in the field and driving to and from survey sites. Some insect surveys will take place at night, requiring night-shift work. - (Essential) Minimum Requirements Applicants must have a valid driver's license. Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check A positive attitude and ability to get along well with others is a must. Applicants should also be self - reliant, motivated, and flexible. This is a large - scale project that will require excellent communication skills and work ethic. Applicants must be willing to regularly work over 40 hours per week on a variable schedule according to weather and be willing to occasionally travel for several days in a row (housing is provided during travel). In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. Basic knowledge of electronic, mechanical, and electrical components including refrigeration systems is preferred. Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and by email. Physical/Work Environment At Pearce safety is our number one concern. Candidates must be able to comply with OSHAFCC/FAA/EPA Standards. Candidates should reside in the Grand Forks, North Dakota area. Must be available for after-hours and weekend call outs on occasion. Extensive daily travel in an independent work structure. Occasional overnights required-company pays all travel costs and provides per diem. Driving to remote work sites as needed. Be exposed to ambient temperatures while working outdoors. Lift and move equipment as needed (up to 50 pounds). Will be required to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical.
