Job Summary:
Our Linguists are responsible for performing real-time transcriptions of sensitive material from Spanish to English; collecting, analyzing, identifying, and decoding of colloquialisms and slang terms; extracting pertinent information and communicating that information to law enforcement agent(s). The linguist will be responsible for transcribing source documents and recordings from storage media, including but not limited to audiocassettes, videocassettes, or digital media.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Listens to oral and written intercepts or pre-recorded communications in Spanish and provides verbal and written synopsis and transcriptions as it may be applicable per project.
Responsible for relating all pertinent information to the Client when supporting a live project.
Contributes to a master-list of slang words and codes (used by a particular group/organization) for the duration of the project/case.
Maintains a voice library for the duration of the project.
Transcribes and translates pertinent calls and documents as assigned by their supervisor.
Produce court ready transcriptions of pertinent calls, chats, and documents, following the required format.
Responsible for using the various reference tools created during the project.
Ability to transcribe a minimum of 16 minutes of recorded conversation in an 8-hour day.
Operates specialized software equipment provided by the government to include JSI voice box, Pen-link, Comverse, and other communication collection equipment used at their assigned site.
Maintain daily log of productivity.
Performs related duties as assigned, within the scope of practice.
Minimum Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelor's degree AND three (3) years' experience in a professional setting OR Associate degree AND five (5) years' experience in a professional setting OR a High School Diploma AND seven (7) years of experience.
Minimum of one (1) year of transcription experience in the required language

Must be a U.S Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident.
Knowledge of source language colloquial terms and expressions.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated skill and certification in expressive and receptive sign language interpreting. NAD/ACCI, EIPA or RID certification required. Provisional Certificate required.
Experience interpreting or transliterating, with experience interpreting or transliterating in an educational setting preferred.
Ability to work as a team player, accept a variety of interpreting assignments at different locations when assigned, and support the development of student consumers' language, communication, self-advocacy, and other developmental needs in collaboration with other educational team members
Willingness and ability to work with students receiving special education services.
Ability to work as an effective member of a team with staff, parents, and the community through the building and maintaining of collaborative and positive relationships.
Basic computer and email skills. Proficient in core educational subject areas.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to handle up to 25 pounds of exerted force.
Frequently requires standing, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, and repetitive motions, sitting, and reaching with hands and arms.

Hennepin County District Court seeks to fill one Spanish Court Interpreter position. This position will provide court-related interpreter services, translate court documents, and assist in district training programs to raise awareness on cultural, interpreter and bilingual issues.
This position is classified as a Court Interpreter and will have a workspace in the Scheduling and Interpreter Unit, located downtown Minneapolis in the Hennepin County Government Center at 300 South 6th Street, Suite C-2475 (24th Floor), but will perform interpreter services at any of the district court locations. Typical hours for this position are 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Monday-Friday, but may vary depending on the assignment and division needs.
The expected starting salary for external candidates is at least $29.50 per hour and may be higher, depending on qualifications. This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act, is AFSCME represented, and is eligible for State of Minnesota employee benefits.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
* Provide accurate in-person Spanish interpretation both simultaneous and consecutive, of court proceedings to ensure access to justice for litigants, witnesses, and judicial officers, as well as for customers at public service counters or over the telephone on an on-call basis.
* Interpret for the court and court customers using a variety of remote technology mediums to increase timely access to the resolution of cases.
* Translate or proof translations of a wide variety of court documents to meet the needs of the court.
* Provide guidance to Hennepin County District Court contract interpreters and agencies to facilitate quality services for the court.
* Assist with training programs provided to court staff, judicial officers, and contract interpreters to raise cultural awareness on interpreter and bilingual issues.
* Assist the division and court administration with developing interpreter policies and procedures by providing expertise and insight into court interpreter services.
* Contribute to the business need of the division by assisting court administration with developing and facilitating training programs, interpreter billings, technology, and scheduling.
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education
* Graduation from high school, or equivalent.
Certification/Licensure
Qualifications for employment as a Court Interpreter are governed by Court Policy 513(c) Court Interpreter Roster Qualifications Policy. Qualified applicants are either certified or meet the requirements for employee court interpreters.
For applicants who are certified court interpreters in the target language:
* Meet the requirements under Minn. Gen. R. Prac. 8.01 to be included on the statewide roster.
* Achieved certification status under part IV.B of Court Policy 513(c) Court Interpreter Roster Qualifications Policy.
* Successful completion of a criminal background study.
OR, if the selected applicant is not certified in the target language per policy 513(c), they will:
* Meet the following requirements as part of a contingent offer of employment:
* Achieve a passing score on the English Proficiency Test provided by the National Center for State Courts (NCSC) in Minnesota or another state.
