Translation:
Can accurately translate reports/texts in electronic and hard-copy formats that contain facts and some abstract language showing an ability to capture intended implications and many nuances.
Can generally capture geopolitical, regional, ethnic, and cultural elements in text. Word choice and expression generally adhere to target language (TL) norms and means of expression specific to subject field(s) and are strong enough to allow translator to operate successively in that field.
Interpretation:
Able to interpret accurately. Typically, consecutive interpretation is needed, but simultaneous interpretation may be requested on rare occasions.
Has a good understanding of one or more regional dialects.
Transcription:
Review audio or internet materials and transcribes with a high degree of accuracy and expression.
Must possess excellent English-language written communication skills for preparing reports.

This Spanish or Portuguese Geospatial Linguist shall analyze and conflate information associated with feature data listed in the Geographic Names Database (GNDB) while working closely with Intelligence Community (IC) geographic names experts. Selected candidate will use agency guidance and policies to respond to questions concerning the proper and correct usage of names, various Romanization systems, and the treatment of descriptive information on standard products. These services will use the Geographic Names Processing Systems (GNPS), charts, imagery and geospatial tools to refine names information for use in all types of products and to respond to use question via the Ad Hoc Query process. In addition, the candidate will prepare files and maps for work, accurately entering data to maintain and update the GNDB, including batching the completed work into the GNDB. The accuracy and reliability of the selected candidate's work is essential to the missions of these users.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Have successfully completed the following:
40-hour Medical Interpreter Training Course
Oral Language Proficiency Test in English and the target language(s)
Must have at least 2 years documented field experience providing interpreting services.
Must possess valid U.S. work authorization
Must reside within the Washington D.C., Northern Virginia, or Maryland area
Must be willing to travel to our clients' locations
Must be at least 18 years of age or older
Must hold a high school diploma or equivalent
Able to independently travel by car or public transport.

Provide sight translation of patient of patient care related documents
Provide document translation of limited list of patient related materials
Promote Appropriate Utilization of Interpretation Services by Staff
Educate staff in use of interpreter and available interpretation services
Communicate with staff about staff needs and patient/family needs
Work closely, interdepartmentally, provide recommendations by communicating information as requested and directed by medical provider/critical staff
Partner with program staff to share best practices and to ensure cultural and linguistic requirements are met
Advocate for patients/families with staff to facilitate continuity of care
Provide sound recommendations to departmental leadership to ensure adequate services to non-English speaking patients and families
Contributes to a Well-Organize Program
Help to ensure interpretation assignments are coordinated accurately, effectively and efficiently
Maintain schedules and required logs/tracking system in order to track project progress and productivity
Keeping and organizing interpretation requests and reports
Accurately document interpretation assignments in all systems and databases used and required by the program
Facilitate the distribution, coordination, and assignment of day-today activities among fellow division staff and under the guidance of the division leadership
