The Counselor's primary responsibilities are in the areas of personal, crisis counseling, and group programs for Western students. Other duties include teaching/coordinating workshops directed at life skill areas, assistance and support with ADA accommodations, facilitating and promotion of prevention and wellness efforts, respond to crisis calls after hours from college personnel, as well as other activities, which support, facilitate and extend the student's in and out-of-class experiences. This individual also provides assistance, as needed, in accomplishing departmental goals and completing departmental projects.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES FOR WHICH THIS INDIVIDUAL IS ACCOUNTABLE
1. Provides personal, group, and crisis counseling, and maintains office availability on a regular and substantial basis for the purpose of meeting with students. These counseling efforts would constitute an average of about 24 hours per week.
2. Provides crisis counseling and intervention as necessary. Coordinates and/or responds to crisis calls from students or college personnel at any hour.
3. Remains knowledgeable about best practices and laws regarding counseling and mental health services. Responsible for providing counseling supervision in compliance with the rules and regulations of the Wyoming Mental Health Professions Licensing Board to any provisionally licensed counselor, including interns.
4. In collaboration with the Dean of Students, assists in the marketing, execution, oversight, and assessment of the in-person and virtual counseling services of the college.
5. Serves as a permanent member of Western's Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT).
6. Leads workshops for students that help in the wellbeing of the whole student and participates in other programming provided by the Student Life Office.
7. Is knowledgeable of resources in the community and makes appropriate referrals when student needs are beyond the scope of on-campus counseling.
8. Establishes strong working relationships with other employees to maintain a culture of reporting students of concern.
9. Responsible for serving as the chair of the drug and alcohol prevention committee focusing on prevention, intervention, and postvention strategies to reduce student use of these substances.
10. Facilitates drug and alcohol-free fun on campus events as well as assisting with other drug and alcohol prevention related activities.
11. Performs intake and counseling education for students who violate the alcohol or drug policies.
12. Serves as the Chair of the Mental Health and Wellness Services Team as part of the Student Retention & Completion Plan.
13. Intentionally utilizes less busy times of the year to proactively plan, communicate, audit, update, and refine processes and events to help in proactivity of busy times when there is an increase in student counseling needs.
14. Represents the college within the local and regional mental health community.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QULAIFICATIONS(Knowledge, Abilities, Education and Experience)
1. Graduation from CACREP, CSWE, or CORE accredited program with a Master's degree in counseling, or other related field that is licensable in Wyoming as a Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
* a. If not presently licensed in Wyoming, the applicant must meet the educational requirements noted above. Additionally, the applicant must agree to immediately gain provisional licensure and secure supervision until such time as to obtain Wyoming Licensed Mental Health Provider status. Applicant will be required to abide by the supervision requirements established in the Rules of the Wyoming Health Professions Licensing Board for provisional licensing.
* b. If licensed in another state, the applicant should contact the Wyoming Mental Health Professional Licensing Board to discuss reciprocity. The applicant would need to obtain licensure status in the state of Wyoming by the onset of the contract.

COUNSELING SERVICES:

Maintain communication with the administrative assistant regarding hours available and sessions scheduled. Changes to availability should be made clear with sufficient time to accommodate the adjustment for office staff and clients served.
Provide a minimum of 15 hours of counseling services each week. All new counselors have 3 months to build up client load.
Counselors are responsible for directing the treatment of their clients and coordination of that care with the QBHPs who are assigned to provide services.
If applicable, provide QBHP Supervision to Connected and Desired Haven staff according to policy.
OPERATION OF COUNSELING OFFICE:
Attend weekly group consultation with the other counselors
Counselors receive $20 credit for every group consultation attended. Credit can be used toward training of the counselors' choosing.
For Community Site Counselors, complete and document all required training and supervision in a timely manner.
Participate in annual Quality of Care Reviews
Maintain a license in good standing with the state of Arkansas and continue supervision as required by the licensing board

What you will be doing: You'll be responsible for the planning, coordinating, developing, and implementing a professional individual and group counseling program for assigned students, in compliance with government and management directives.
Essential functions:
* Review detailed background file, conduct personal interviews and assessments as necessary to analyze and recommend a program for each assigned student
* Maintain individual folder on each assigned student
* Provide direct aid to students with personal needs or problems, sickness, injury, family problems, emergency leaves or UA retrievals, Prepare UA reports and leave forms, verify required information in accordance with PRH and MTC requirements
* Provide continuous educational, CTT, personal and social adjustment counseling on an individual and group basis; recommend necessary program modifications throughout each assigned student's stay.
* Conduct continuous interpretation and evaluation of progress in student's specific development program, coordinate problem cases and point out areas in which guidance and development techniques can be improved. Maintain up to date documentation, case notes and records using CIS, as well as other systems of documentation
* Recommend medical or psychiatric evaluation for emotional or psychological problems; evaluate results and take remedial action as warranted; participate as a member of the mental health team. Refer students to other program areas such as transfers, extension or advanced programs, and college placement
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's Degree including 15 semester hours in social services related instruction and one (1) year experience in counseling or related field required.
* Experience with youth, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and computer proficiency required.
* Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
