A Court Security Officer (CSO) is a specialized security position providing protective services at or around United State Federal Court Houses or other areas as assigned under a contract to the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS). CSO's in this classification generally provide security services under some limited supervision from a Lead CSO and the District Supervisor who reports to the Contract Manager (CM). This is a union position. Primary Purpose: To promote and maintain a school environment that will ensure the safety and security of district personnel, students, and visitors to district campuses and facilities. Qualifications: * High School Diploma or GED * Associates Degree from an accredited college or university preferred; college hours in * Criminal Justice recommended * Valid Texas driver license; meet and maintain automobile insurance liability eligibility * School Resource Officer certification preferred * Mental Health Officer certification preferred * Current Texas Peace Officer license issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement * (TCOLE); Intermediate Peace Officer certification preferred * Bondable, as required by Texas Education Code § 37.081 * Three years previous experience in full-time law enforcement preferred Knowledge/Skills: * Possess an understanding of the Texas Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, Texas * Family Code and Chapter 37 of the Texas Education Code * Ability to pass required physical, psychiatric, and drug testing * Ability to record information * Ability to follow verbal and written instructions * Ability to work effectively with juveniles and the public at large, exercising sensitivity to special needs children * Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing * Ability to problem solve, think critically, and manage conflict * Ability to think clearly and respond calmly and effectively in escalating situations * Working knowledge of criminal investigations, police reports, and criminal laws Essential Job functions: * Training and ability to subdue offenders, including use of firearms, non-lethal weapons, and handcuffs * Exhibit a high level of personal integrity and display high ethical standards * Operate a computer to develop databases and do word processing * Actively monitor interior and exterior of campus for unauthorized persons * Instruct in classroom setting (IE: traffic stop education, bullying, dating violence) * Respond to calls for service which may include theft, criminal mischief, disturbances, or other disorders on school district sites * Conduct initial and follow-up investigations (or assist with same) * Assist in developing and implementing school safety programs * Promote crime prevention and traffic safety programs * Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and campus policies affecting schools, including daily attendance, punctuality, and confidentiality * Assist other local law enforcement and fire agencies, as required or requested * Assist school administration with alleged criminal violations committed by students, when requested * Regularly confer with teachers, counselors, campus administrators, and other staff to identify problems and/or suspected criminal behavior * Maintain contact with and act as a liaison to local law enforcement agencies * Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, including records of all cases investigated and reports required by law * Comply with all district routines and regulations * Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors, colleagues, students, and parents * Provide traffic control at athletic events, school closings/openings, or as otherwise required * Provide escorts or accompany students, parents, or district staff, as needed * Work effectively and efficiently with a team * Follow safety and security procedures * Other duties as assigned * Demonstrates principles of the Manor ISD People Experience. Responsibilities Patrols assigned areas on foot, car, or by boat; communicates with Dispatcher by radio; makes arrests; directs traffic; prepares necessary reports and records; may be called at any time for emergency duties. Provides additional patrol for business checks, neighborhood checks, and residential checks. Investigates any suspicious activity or cases assigned by supervisor in order to enforce laws and ordinances and investigates traffic accidents. Registers and books prisoners, prepares record of arrest, and submits detailed reports of investigation. Testifies in court proceedings when required. Receives telephone calls and visitors with professional courtesy, attentiveness, and concern. Provides support capabilities and performance in emergency situations in cooperation and coordination with all police, fire and EMS personnel involved in handling the emergency; either by traffic control, crowd control, protection of fire equipment, hoses, equipment, etc., and provides assistance to EMS personnel when necessary and appropriate; loading/unloading of victims, etc. Provides proactive public relations; provides positive citizen contacts to identify issues or needs. Participates in community education, citizen education events, and public relations, Participates in required training activities and readiness checks; proactively maintains equipment and resources. Investigates traffic accidents, directs traffic, and assists motorists to ensure public safety. Provides backup for Animal Control calls and disturbances. Performs bailiff duties and other security detail when assigned. Performs other duties as may be assigned. Minimum Training, Education and Experience Required: One to two years related experience and/or training; or associate degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience. High school diploma or equivalent required. Preferred Training, Education and Experience: Three years related experience and/or training; or associate degree and one year experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
