General Purpose

Police Hiring Disqualifiers
Following is a listing of factors that may disqualify a potential applicant from being hired as a Corinth police officer permanently or for a specified period of time. These causes for disqualification are in accordance with provisions of the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement peace officer standards and pertinent state statutes. The causes include but are not limited to the below:
1. Applicant is not a citizen of the United States. The Applicant will be considered ineligible until citizenship is lawfully obtained.
2. Applicant has been convicted of or admitted to conduct that constitutes a class A or class B misdemeanor under the state penal code or the equivalent under federal law, to include violations of the uniform code of military justice, within the past ten years. This will result in a temporary rejection until that time period has passed. Crimes involving moral turpitude may result in permanent disqualification and will be considered on a case by case basis with consideration of circumstances and time elapsed since the crime occurred. Crimes of moral turpitude are often defined as "conduct contrary to community standards of justice, honesty, and good morals."
3. Applicant has been convicted or admitted to conduct which constitutes a felony under state or federal law, including the uniform code of military justice. This will result in a permanent disqualification.

Police Lateral Entry Program
* The Police Lateral Entry Program is authorized as a form of seniority pay as authorized by an ordinance through the City Council and designed to attract additional qualified applicants who would not require the training time involved with an applicant who lacks previous experience. This additional recruiting tool shall involve compensating lateral entry officers for their experience based on the number of years of their prior experience. The Police Lateral program in effect at the time of hire shall be followed for placement in the pay plan.
Eligibility for Lateral Entry
* To be eligible for lateral pay, a lateral entry applicant shall have at least two (2) years continuous service as a paid, full-time certified peace officer in a law enforcement agency, including out-of-state agencies, as approved by the Chief of Police.
* The lateral applicant shall have been in a position where they had the authority to enforce laws, investigate crimes, make arrests, respond to calls for service, carry a firearm, and use discretion as part of their assigned duties.
* A lateral entry applicant shall not have more than a three (3) year break in service from the time they left the former law enforcement agency and the time they made application with the Grand Prairie Police Department.
