Rate/Salary: A reasonable estimate of the current pay range for this position is $50 to $70 hourly (Rate range is on C2C basis). Overview
We are seeking an experienced Security Operations (SecOps) Engineer to support a complex enterprise environment and partner closely with executive leadership and a Cyber Managed Services program. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys owning security architecture documentation, driving remediation plans, enabling business-critical security improvements, and mentoring junior team members.
Key Responsibilities
Security Architecture & Documentation
Document current internal security architecture, including systems, controls, integrations, and dependencies.
Maintain clear, up-to-date documentation for ongoing audits, assessments, and leadership reviews.
Program Management & Collaboration
Work directly with a Cyber Managed Service program to coordinate activities, address findings, and align on technical priorities.
Develop a comprehensive remediation plan for recent Red Team findings and drive execution across the environment.
Partner with consultants and stakeholders to define requirements, secure approvals, develop budgets, and create multi-phase security roadmaps.
Communicate project timelines, risks, and needs to improve transparency and alignment within SecOps functions.
Business Enablement
Translate business requirements into actionable technical changes that enable secure and efficient operations for the user community.
Assess impact of planned changes and support user adoption when necessary.
Security Operations & Monitoring
Develop location-specific monitoring, security measurement, and alerting strategies.
Support incident response, vulnerability management, and proactive threat detection through existing tools.
Training & Mentorship
Build and deliver a structured training program for Junior SecOps full-time employees.
Provide ongoing coaching and development support for growing the internal security team.

3 7 years of experience in Security Operations, Security Engineering, or related roles.
Strong understanding of enterprise security architecture, monitoring, and incident response.
Hands-on experience with several tools listed in the technology stack.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with external partners, managed security service providers, and internal stakeholders.
Experience developing remediation plans, security roadmaps, and governance documentation.
Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex security topics to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Experience mentoring or training junior security staff is a plus.

Public Safety Officer

$1,000 bonus for anyone who completes the 6 month introductory period. The pay is 22.00/hour. The Highlights Public Safety Officers detect and prevent crime and enforce all laws and University rules and regulations, preserving the peace, protecting life and property within their span of control.
Monitors the safety of students, faculty and staff. This is done at either the Lincoln Park or Loop campus through patrol activity on campus and within university buildings, monitoring visitor access to university buildings, conducting foot patrols, locking down classrooms and responding to service calls and alarms and reports of suspicious activity. Assists Chicago Police and Fire departments with special detail, as needed, for campus activities and events.
What You'll Do:
1) Performs Patrol Activity and Incident response.
Makes frequent patrols, by foot and vehicle (LPC), of designated campus areas to watch for unusual or suspicious activities and hazardous situations, reporting issues to dispatcher and/or supervisor. Takes positive action on complaints/calls for assistance received from faculty, staff, students, visitors and others, providing excellent customer service. (LPC) Responds to a variety of incidents including, but not limited to, burglaries, thefts, assaults, sexual assaults, robberies, accidents, medical emergencies, fire alarms, etc. Detains offenders until Chicago Police is on scene. May be required to testify in court. If incidents occur, writes incident accident/illness reports and determines transport needs of patient for treatment. Notifies the Chicago Fire Dept for assistance if condition is serious or life-threatening and assists the Chicago Police Department and Chicago Fire Department on all incidents on campus.
2) Monitors lobby entrance (Loop) and controls access to unauthorized areas (both LPC and Loop). Observes/screens all visitors/persons entering the premises, monitoring for abnormal activity and questioning suspicious persons. Checks, locks and opens University buildings, classrooms and offices. Checks office areas for suspicious activities.
3) Special Detail/Event Duty.
Provides a variety of services to outside groups who rent space at various times throughout the year (Loop). Assists external law enforcement agencies during dignitary visits; monitors student events that serve alcohol. Handles a variety of issues related to events on campus including, athletic events, festivals, concerts, theatre performance, and move-in weekends (LPC).
4) Provide Escort Services. (LPC)
Provides hospital transports for sick and injured individuals or as requested by University Counseling Services. Provides a daily escort service between the hours of 6 pm and 6 am for the safety of faculty, staff, students and guests on campus.
5) Property Management. (Loop)
Responds to inquiries and enforces university policies on property removal. Assists with routing of deliveries at loading dock.
6) Test and Monitor Equipment and Emergency Radio transmissions.
Tests emergency notification system on a weekly basis. Performs bi-monthly tests of campus emergency call boxes (LPC), and duress alarms.

Responsibilities:

Continuously assess, refine, and manage the implementation of security controls across the enterprise architecture, using security metrics to drive improvements

Evaluate and recommend emerging cybersecurity technologies and best practices relevant to our environment
Support the Facility Security Officer in other security disciplines such as COMSEC, physical security, document control, Insider Threat, OPSEC, and visit requests

Minimum Educational Qualifications & Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in an applicable field and at least five years of relevant experience
Preferred Security+ (or equivalent) certified
Ability to perform risk assessment and risk management for classified information systems
Ability to obtain Security Clearance, for which the United States Government requires United States citizenshi
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to maintain organized and complete records

Minimum Previous Experience:
5+ years of progressive experience in information security
Expertise in RMF and ATO processes

The Highlights
Public Safety Officers detect and prevent crime and enforce all laws and University rules and regulations, preserving the peace, protecting life and property within their span of control.
Monitors the safety of students, faculty and staff. This is done at either the Lincoln Park or Loop campus through patrol activity on campus and within university buildings, monitoring visitor access to university buildings, conducting foot patrols, locking down classrooms and responding to service calls and alarms and reports of suspicious activity. Assists Chicago Police and Fire departments with special detail, as needed, for campus activities and events.
What You'll Do:
1) Performs Patrol Activity and Incident response.
Makes frequent patrols, by foot and vehicle (LPC), of designated campus areas to watch for unusual or suspicious activities and hazardous situations, reporting issues to dispatcher and/or supervisor. Takes positive action on complaints/calls for assistance received from faculty, staff, students, visitors and others, providing excellent customer service. (LPC) Responds to a variety of incidents including, but not limited to, burglaries, thefts, assaults, sexual assaults, robberies, accidents, medical emergencies, fire alarms, etc. Detains offenders until Chicago Police is on scene. May be required to testify in court. If incidents occur, writes incident accident/illness reports and determines transport needs of patient for treatment. Notifies the Chicago Fire Dept for assistance if condition is serious or life-threatening and assists the Chicago Police Department and Chicago Fire Department on all incidents on campus.
2) Monitors lobby entrance (Loop) and controls access to unauthorized areas (both LPC and Loop). Observes/screens all visitors/persons entering the premises, monitoring for abnormal activity and questioning suspicious persons. Checks, locks and opens University buildings, classrooms and offices. Checks office areas for suspicious activities.
3) Special Detail/Event Duty.
Provides a variety of services to outside groups who rent space at various times throughout the year (Loop). Assists external law enforcement agencies during dignitary visits; monitors student events that serve alcohol. Handles a variety of issues related to events on campus including, athletic events, festivals, concerts, theatre performance, and move-in weekends (LPC).
4) Provide Escort Services. (LPC)
Provides hospital transports for sick and injured individuals or as requested by University Counseling Services. Provides a daily escort service between the hours of 6 pm and 6 am for the safety of faculty, staff, students and guests on campus.
5) Property Management. (Loop)
Responds to inquiries and enforces university policies on property removal. Assists with routing of deliveries at loading dock.
6) Test and Monitor Equipment and Emergency Radio transmissions.
Tests emergency notification system on a weekly basis. Performs bi-monthly tests of campus emergency call boxes (LPC), and duress alarms.

QUALIFICATIONS:
* Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
* Must have physical ability to lift/move supplies, materials, and office equipment up to 40 lbs.
* Must sit at workstation for extended periods of time and/or move fequently from workstation to various other areas of building.
* Must organize and prioritize workflow.
* Must be proficient in the use of computers, office practices, procedures and office equipment.
* Must project a positive image of the district to students, staff and the general public as well as exhibit a positive employee attitude.
* Must demonstrate appropriate interpersonal skills, and communicate clearly and respectfully with students, staff, parents, visitors and the general public.
* Must have awareness of a variety of student needs, including physical and social emotional needs.
* Must hold a valid driver's license.
* Must complete district approved Crisis Prevention Institute training (CPI).
* Must have physical ability to move about frequently and quickly throughout the school campus.
* Must have possession of a valid Red Cross First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/AED Certification or equivalent.
POSITION EXPECTATIONS:
1. Assisting in the efficient and effective functioning of the school including, but not limited to:
a. supporting school safety and district crisis plans.
b. responding to emergency or crisis situations for the purpose of addressing immediate safety concerns.
c. promoting a safe school environment by observing and reporting behavior of students, parents and visitors on school property.
d. promoting a clean school environment and ensures that school policies and procedures are followed school wide by supervising student's behavior outside of the classrooms.
e. assisting visitors by helping them obtain a visitor's pass and directing them to the appropriate location.
f. supporting and supervising students in non-academic settings.
g. assisting students who appear ill, distraught, or otherwise needy, by contacting parents or appropriate school personnel and referring to the appropriate services.
h. promoting a clean school environment and correcting student misperceptions of others by modeling appropriate behavior and/or talking to the students.
i. assisting the DHSSSW and School Resource Officer in escorting students to and from various locations.
2. Particpating in appropriate professional development activities in order to enhance job performance.
3. Cultivating and developing inclusive and equitable working relationships with staff, students and community members.
