' Minimum Qualifications Candidates will have successfully completed an accredited police academy and be certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board as peace officer or have comparable education and experience. Must be at least 21 years of age and have a high school diploma and a minimum of 60 hours of post-secondary education (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). Must possess a valid Illinois driver's license with a good driving record. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. * Ability to walk, run, climb, provide assistance to persons in distress, operate required equipment (including police bicycles and various weapon systems), and work outdoors in a variety of adverse weather conditions. * Must be able to work with flexible schedules involving evening, weekend and holiday work. * Ability to successfully complete various required departmental training programs (including police bicycle and defensive tactics). * Ability to send and receive information with necessary optical, auditory and manual dexterity. * Must pass a psychological exam, basic skills assessment and personality profile. * Must pass a physical examination. * Must pass a background investigation including a fingerprint check and polygraph exam.
