Application and Testing Process
Under the direct supervision of a Police Lieutenant and Sergeant, with general supervision by the Chief of Police, the employee's behavior is governed by policies and procedures of the Police Department; local, state, and federal laws; and court decisions.
This is a responsible human relations and skilled position in public safety. The employee in this position is responsible for the protection of the public's safety, the prevention of crime, and the enforcement of local, state, and federal laws.
The employee exercises considerable discretion in regulating daily activity and use of enforcement powers.
Work includes patrolling the community by vehicle and on foot. Bicycle and marine patrol duties are assigned upon qualification. The employee responds to calls for service, which include reports of criminal activity, traffic safety, crime prevention, and general public safety problems.
The employee conducts preliminary and continued investigations for reported crimes and traffic accidents. This responsibility includes crime scene processing, interviewing witnesses and victims, and enforcing specific violations of the law.
The employee performs several assignments to prevent crime and traffic accidents. These assignments are educational and inspectional: presentations on prevention techniques; conducting security surveys; security checks on home and businesses; inspection of business practices and policies; and inspection of building construction for compliance with the security ordinance.

The Tukwila Police Department is a municipal police department with 77 commissioned officers and 24 non-commissioned support staff. We are fortunate to work in a supportive environment with supportive community members, supportive elected officials, and supportive police department command staff. Our officers come from all walks of life and experiences including lateral officers from all over the country. We genuinely support and care about our officers, their mental health and general wellbeing. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Depending upon the individual assignment, the Campus Safety Assistant may perform all or a combination of the following:
1. Responds to calls pertaining to the safety and protection of district students, staff and property.
2. Provides guidance and instruction to students on consequences of their actions; discusses options and choices.
3. Patrols areas in and around schools as needed; confronts trespassers as necessary; assists in the intervention of individuals who are committing or suspected of committing crimes on or near school property. Assists the principal and staff in dealing with disruptive students.

Application and Testing Process
Under the direct supervision of a Police Lieutenant and Sergeant, with general supervision by the Chief of Police, the employee's behavior is governed by policies and procedures of the Police Department; local, state, and federal laws; and court decisions.
This is a responsible human relations and skilled position in public safety. The employee in this position is responsible for the protection of the public's safety, the prevention of crime, and the enforcement of local, state, and federal laws.
The employee exercises considerable discretion in regulating daily activity and use of enforcement powers.
Work includes patrolling the community by vehicle and on foot. Bicycle and marine patrol duties are assigned upon qualification. The employee responds to calls for service, which include reports of criminal activity, traffic safety, crime prevention, and general public safety problems.
The employee conducts preliminary and continued investigations for reported crimes and traffic accidents. This responsibility includes crime scene processing, interviewing witnesses and victims, and enforcing specific violations of the law.
The employee performs several assignments to prevent crime and traffic accidents. These assignments are educational and inspectional: presentations on prevention techniques; conducting security surveys; security checks on home and businesses; inspection of business practices and policies; and inspection of building construction for compliance with the security ordinance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Seattle Police Department is seeking individuals committed to understanding and protecting the ethical, cultural, and ethnic values of the City of Seattle and its residents as Police Officers. As first responders, Police Officers are vital to public safety and under regular supervision, perform basic police services in accordance with the mission, goals, and objectives of the City of Seattle Police Department and in compliance with governing federal, state, and local laws.
* Lateral Entry Police Officer candidates are experienced police officers who have worked for other municipal, county, or state agencies for at least 24 of the past 36 months (post academy experience) at the time of testing, with full police powers and duties. An applicant MUST have experience as a patrol officer who has responded to 911 calls. Experience gained solely as a Corrections Officer does not qualify an applicant for lateral entry status, even if the applicant has completed an equivalent basic law enforcement academy.
* If you are currently a police officer but do not meet the experience requirements of a Lateral Police Officer, you may qualify to test as an Exceptional Entry candidate. Exceptional Entry candidates should apply as an Entry Level Police Officer and take the entry-level exam.
* Provides for public safety by maintaining order, responding to emergencies, protecting people and property, enforcing motor vehicle and criminal laws, and promoting good community relations. Explains laws and police procedures to residents.
* Operates a patrol car. Patrols city streets, areas and businesses to deter criminal activity and promote public safety.

* Have not used any illegal drug(s) while employed in a criminal justice and/or law enforcement capacity, and
* Have not manufactured or cultivated illegal drug(s) for the purpose of the sales/marketing of the drug(s).
* Have not sold or facilitated the sale of illegal drugs.
