The UNARMED Security Guard is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of customers, employees, and property. * Performs law enforcement and crime prevention duties to maintain law and order during normal and emergency operations. Performs police duties to assure the protection of life, property, and the civil rights of individuals.
* Patrols DLA installation and property to prevent crime, protect life and property and enforce local regulations and laws. Plans and conducts initial investigations of suspicious activities, security breaches, and crimes.
* Advises suspects of their Miranda rights prior to questioning. Writes incident and activity reports and detains suspects. Secures and processes the crime scene, conducts preliminary investigations, gathers evidence and obtains witness statements.
* Acts as first responder to all types of emergencies or volatile situations such as terrorist attacks, hostage/barricaded situations, bomb threats, vehicle accidents, robberies, hazardous material incidents, and other emergencies.
* Performs fixed post operations located within the interior of DLA installations or at perimeter gates. Controls access to sensitive/restricted areas where there is potential for breach of security, public safety or public health.
* Performs inspections on outgoing personnel and their packages and vehicles at various gates and checkpoints to detect, detain, or cite those who attempt to steal government property.
* Provides specialized pedestrian and traffic control services in connection with ceremonies, parades, emergency situations, and similar events.
* Performs traffic duties including directing traffic, issuing tickets/notices for vehicle operation, and parking violations.
* Coordinates emergency responses between security, fire, and other emergency units, and receives and acts on calls concerning reports of violations or complaints to include 911/100 emergency calls.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-06 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes:
* Experience and knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property.
* Basic investigative methods and techniques to investigate violations or reports of probable incidents.

Training: The DLA Police is dedicated to providing our military installations with the best possible quality of officer. We at DLA recognize that one of the most important ways to accomplish this task is through dedicated, consistent, and continual training. Our officers receive training through a variety of programs. The bulk of this training is conducted through the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA, and the Army Civilian Police Academy at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Recruit officers begin training immediately while receiving full pay and benefits.
Mission Essential: This position has been designated as a Mission Essential position (e.g., snow emergency days, holidays, increased security periods, national emergency). The position cannot be vacated during war or national emergencies without seriously impairing the mission. Assignments may be performed at any job site within the organization.
Physical Demands: The work requires extended periods of physical exertion derived from such activities as running, walking, standing, bending or driving and occasionally lifting, pushing and/or carrying items weighing 50 pounds or more. Requires stamina, physical agility and dexterity and the strength to pursue, apprehend or detain. The incumbent may be required to push or drag heavy weights of 150 pounds or more. The incumbent is required to exemplify the physical characteristic of agility in the performance of his/her duties. DoD and DLA regulations require at a minimum an initial and annual physical fitness test. The individual will also undergo routine training in defensive tactics, active shooter/hostage response, handcuffing and firearms qualifications which require physical agility, dexterity and stamina.
Work Environment: The work is performed in an environment which involves exposure to regular and recurring discomforts such as extreme variations in weather conditions while directing traffic and performing walking patrols. The incumbent may be exposed to high levels of noise in certain industrial settings, destructive weather or higher Force Protection conditions. The work involves moderate and high risks and possible endangerment of life or serious injury that requires the exercise of safety precautions and use of personal protective equipment such as vests, coats, gloves, boots, goggles, masks, shields, etc. Incumbent may also be subject to uncomfortable conditions where basic facilities may not be provided or functional.

Minimum Training & Experience
Successful completion of 45 quarter hours or 30 semester hours of college; or one year full-time law enforcement work in a sworn capacity, or one year active full-time military experience; or active reserve military experience with at least one year of deployment; or one year full-time as a correctional officer; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Necessary Special Requirements
Must be at least 21 years of age and a citizen of the United States, with no pending criminal charges.
Must possess a law enforcement certificate issued by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission; or must have completed a law enforcement basic recruit curriculum in the State of Florida and must pass the State of Floridas law enforcement certification examination within thirty days of appointment.
Must have no convictions for any felony, perjury, false statement, or domestic violence. Must have no DUI convictions within ten years of application. Other arrest histories are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Visual ability must be correctable to 20/20 in each eye with normal color distinction and depth perception.
Must reside within a 35-mile radius of the intersection of North Monroe and Tennessee Streets, Tallahassee, at the time of appointment.
Must possess a valid Class E State driver's license and have a satisfactory driving history
