How many years does it take to become a merchandiser?

There are no educational requirements to work as an entry-level merchandising specialist, but many employers prefer an associate's or a bachelor's degree in fields such as marketing or business administration.

The entry-level role of a merchandiser works to make a store's merchandise attractive to customers to promote the item's sale. The merchandiser may create and arrange displays, price and tag products, plan and order inventory or perform market research.

Depending on a person's aptitude, educational achievements, and experience, they can use this position to gain the knowledge and skills needed to grow into higher-level positions.

One such role is that of a sales executive. This position works with customers to take care of issues or complaints and to expand the customer base. They also prepare budgets, train sales personnel, and study sales trends to help select products.

If a person has a background or aptitude in marketing, they move into the position of an advertising manager. Advertising managers work to create and present a plan for an advertising concept. They work with graphic artists and other marketing experts to create ads or promos.
