At a typical full-time job, your employer will likely provide you with health insurance benefits. But for part-time jobs, access to benefits can be a little trickier. But there are absolutely jobs available for workers who are looking for part-time work.

Part-time jobs with benefits are employment opportunities that require less than 40 hours of work per week but provide employees with a combination of health, vision, or dental insurance. These jobs are unique in that most companies only offer benefits to full-time employees. However, many companies do provide benefits for their part-time employees.

This can be especially helpful for college or graduate students, individuals who are caretakers or have dependents, or those who need a more flexible work-life balance.

Companies that provide health plans to their part-time employees are typically much better at retaining their employees, reducing turnover rates, and see a higher level of satisfaction from their employees. Health insurance benefits are an essential consideration many applicants will take into consideration when choosing their next job.

While health insurance can sometimes be an extra expense coming out of your paycheck, it’s vital to have it in the long run. Companies That Offer Part-Time Jobs With Benefits

Luckily, a wide variety of companies offer part-time work with legitimate health insurance coverage for their employees.

  1. Starbucks. With over 240,000 employees globally, Starbucks is well known for its generous treatment of workers, providing health benefits to their part-time employees. The Starbucks package for part-time employees is called “Your Special Blend” and includes part-time employees.

    To be eligible for this package, employees must work at least 240 hours over a consecutive three-month period, or at least 20 hours per week. Coverage can begin as early as the first day of the second month following the mandatory three-month waiting period.

    Along with employee base pay, Starbucks offers employees who work part-time bonuses and health coverage, including life insurance, disability, accident coverage, medical coverage, dental coverage, and vision plans.

    The coverage is comprehensive and includes prescription drug coverage, mental health, chemical dependency treatment, and alternative care treatments such as acupuncture, chiropractic care, and homeopathic care.

    The company also provides employees with a 401(k) retirement plan, discounted company stock, and free coffee every week to add to the appeal. Additionally, Starbucks offers paid leave, adoption assistance, education tuition coverage, commuter passes, and financial aid to certain employees.

  2. Whole Foods. Now under the broader Amazon umbrella, Whole Foods Market employs approximately 100,000 workers, with 25,000 classified as part-time workers. Whole Foods is the world’s largest provider of natural and organic foods and a wonderful company that treats its employees well.

    The chainwide average hourly wage is upwards of $20 per hour for employees with the right experience. The large chain offers medical, dental, and vision coverage to their part-time employees. Employees that are eligible to work at least 20 hours per week and have successfully completed the mandatory probationary period of their employment will receive benefits once they accrue 800 hours of work.

    Benefits here are optional, but unlike full-time employees, part-timers are not matched 100% and must pay a share of the premiums out of pocket. To add to the benefits, part-time employees are also eligible for 20% discounts on any store purchase. They’re also eligible for life insurance, paid sick and vacation leave, stock options, health savings accounts, and 401(k) plans.

  3. UPS. Atlanta-based United Parcel Service (UPS) is one of the world’s largest logistics organizations, with 430,000 employees globally. It is one of the pioneers in providing health insurance and other benefits to its employees. It advertises full-time packages for part-time employees and is one of the few companies in the world that provides their hourly employees full benefits.

    UPS’s employees, including warehouse and delivery workers, operate under collective bargaining agreements that have developed benefits packages for part-time employees who have worked a full year. If you work at least one hour per week, you can choose basic health plans to cover preventative medical and dental services.

    As part of the collective bargaining agreement, part-time employees will pay nothing out of pocket for benefits. Along with an attractive benefits package, UPS workers can also enjoy benefits for life, disability, and death insurance, as well as adoption assistance and tobacco cessation support.

  4. Costco. Costco is the country’s second-largest retailer, with 126,000 employees. Costco is notorious for providing employees with great benefits and generous pay, with a flat pay scale even for its leaders.

    Any employee who works over 24 hours per week and accrues 180 days of work is eligible for the Choice Plus health plan, enabling members to choose their own providers. Part-time employees are eligible for dental plans that cover preventative visits and basic procedures, as well as vision coverage.

    Part-time employees will enjoy an in-house prescription plan with just $5 copays for generic drugs and 5-15% copays for branded medicines. Costco also provides its workers with a 401(k) plan, which the company will match up to $500 annually.

    Their benefit of a flexible spending account (FSA) helps workers use pre-tax earnings and put it towards dependent care like daycare. They also have a program for mental health care and counseling, and referrals for debt counselors and lawyers.

  5. Lowe’s. All part-time employees at this home improvement outlet are eligible for health insurance benefits. With 260,000 employees spread across the country, Lowe’s is pretty transparent about their part-time employee benefits summary.

    Part-time employees who have accrued 89 days of consecutive work are eligible for a health plan covering the cost of all preventative care and up to four primary care visits per year. At Lowe’s, there are no annual deductibles or co-insurance, but there are no out-of-pocket maximums, or specialty care included either.

    Dental and vision are also provided with no minimum hours worked required, but employees must apply in their first 31 days of hire. In addition, Lowe’s part-time employees are eligible for life insurance, short-term disability plans, stock purchase plans, 401(k) plans, and paid vacation time.

  6. REI. This Seattle-based company employs just over 12,000 employees. It’s surfaced as one of the country’s best retailers to work for and features a flat pay scale. REI offers benefits to both full-time and part-time employees, as long as they work at least 20 hours per week.

    Employees are provided with tools to help them navigate individual health insurance. This company hires for various part-time roles, including customer service and outdoor school instructors. Their benefits include life insurance, disability insurance, and medical insurance options, including dental, vision, and long-term plans.

    Additionally, REI provides part-time employees with benefits such as paid leave and employee discounts, including up to 30% off on trips taken with REI adventures. They also offer a generous retirement plan, which includes a dollar-for-dollar company match.

  7. Staples. Staples offers a “fixed benefit” health plan to part-time employees who work at least 15 hours a week. Aside from the fixed benefit health plan, they offer part-time employees several benefits, including a 401(k) plan, short-term disability insurance, flexible dental and vision, life insurance, and an accidental death insurance plan.

    At Staples, your coverage also extends to family members, a great perk for part-time employees.

  8. Nike. Based in Portland, Oregon, Nike employs tens of thousands of employees in the US. Part-time employees who work over 30 hours per week are eligible for their full-time benefits package. Part-timers who work over 20 hours per week are eligible for some benefits, but not all.

    If you have been with the company for at least one year, Nike offers a generous health plan that includes preventative and essential services such as physician office visits and prescriptions.

    Additionally, part-time employees with at least one year of working under their belts will qualify for a stock purchase plan, which offers stock at a 15% discount, as well as a 401(k) plan for part-time employees.

    Nike’s plan matched dollar-for-dollar on contributions of up to 5% of total income. The company also provides disability, life, and death insurance, paid time off, sabbaticals, long-term care insurance, transportation, health club discounts, and health savings accounts.

  9. Trader Joe’s. This American chain based in California employs over 10,000 people globally. They offer positions for both full-time and part-time crew members with a variety of different schedules and responsibilities. While employees, employees enjoy a 10% discount on all store goods.

    The company offers retirement plans and contributes up to 10% of your annual salary. Eligible employees, both full-time and part-time, are eligible for low-cost insurance plans for medical, vision, and dental coverage. This includes dependents at a reasonable cost. Employees can also receive paid time off, performance-based promotion, and career and educational development financial assistance.

  10. Allegis Group. This staffing firm employs around 10,000 employees and almost 100,000 contractors and temporary workers. Both full-time and part-time employees are eligible for medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid through employee paycheck contributions.

    Contractors and temp workers must apply for benefits within 30 days of their initial hire. As an employee, you’ll also be eligible for a health savings account, which the company matches at its discretion. You’ll also qualify for a 401(k) with a dollar-to-dollar match up to $500.

  11. Macy’s. This department store chain employs over 130,000 employees across stores and headquarters. This organization offers flexible and well-planned schedules for their employees. Depending on your needs, you can work in different capacities as a part-time employee.

    If you meet the threshold for 20 hours per week, you are eligible for employee discounts within the Macy’s store. Employees are provided with on-the-job training and eligible for growth opportunities within their job title or beyond. Part-time workers receive health benefits and retirement benefits.
