Nearly a decade ago I co-founded a non-profit tech company called Medic Mobile. We design, deliver and support world-class open source software for health workers who provide care in the hardest-to-reach communities. In 2017 I completed a PhD in innovation studies with support from a Gates Cambridge Scholarship, and I now lead Medic Mobile's research efforts. My expertise is in human-centered design research and practice, with a focus on health equity, digital innovation, doorstep care and new models of precision global health. After several years of many wanders, I'm now based in Seattle, where I enjoy being part of a vibrant global health community and being closer to my great big outdoorsy family.

An internal medicine resident at Brigham & Women's Hospital with formal training in molecular biophysics & biochemistry, biostatistics, and clinical trial design, now a mobile health industry leader in constant interrogation of the intersection of mobile technology and healthcare.

James has utilized his experience in the finance industry on Wall Street to enact his passion for social change. He comes to Medic Mobile having served as CFO of SPBD Microfinance, the largest network of microfinance banks in the South Pacific. Previously, he has been engaged as a consultant with Grassroots Capital (in private equity) and BlueOrchard Finance S.A. (in asset management) and as a VP in Institutional Equity Sales for Banc of America Securities LLC. He is a CFA Charterholder and holds a MBA from Rice University. James speaks fluent English and Dutch, and is conversant French and Spanish. He loves playing tennis and golf and is professional coach for the John Maxwell Team.
