AI Business Development Trainee (Portland) - Structured Career Pivot
Refer.Io
Trainee job in Portland, OR
Ready for a Change? Launch Your High-Tech Career in AI.
Are you at a career crossroads? Do you have incredible people skills honed in fast-paced environments like retail, hospitality, or teaching, but feel capped in your current role? Are you looking for a structured, supportive path to pivot into the lucrative, future-proof world of B2B technology?
This is your opportunity. We are looking for an AI Business Development Trainee to join our team in Portland. Your background is less important than your drive and your natural ability to connect with people. We don't expect you to be an AI expert-we will teach you everything you need to know. Your job is to leverage your existing relationship-building skills to become a trusted consultant, a community connector, and a bridge between local businesses and our world-class AI solutions team.
This role is specifically designed as a comprehensive career on-ramp for individuals ready to transition into a high-earning, strategic B2B role. We provide the training, the mentorship, and the financial stability to ensure your success.
What This Job Is All About: Your Structured Path to Success
This is a mentorship-driven, educational sales role. We pay you to learn and to have meaningful conversations. Your daily work involves meeting business owners in the Portland area, asking insightful questions to understand their challenges, and introducing them to the potential of AI. You succeed by being curious, coachable, and consistently following our proven, step-by-step process. You are a student of business, a community interviewer, and a process guide all in one. You find the opportunities, identify the need, and introduce the solution-which our expert team then delivers.
This is not a sink-or-swim environment. It is about following a clear, structured path to build a new, rewarding career with long-term financial security.
A Day in the Life: Learning and Growing
Morning:
You start your day with a check-in with your mentor, reviewing your "Core Loop" strategy for the day: having 5+ conversations about AI with local business owners. You then use our content templates to post your learning insights on LinkedIn, building your personal brand under guidance.
Afternoon:
You attend a local networking event, like a chamber of commerce meeting or a tech meetup, with a senior team member. You learn our "Event-to-Gamma" strategy by watching it in action and practicing your pitch in a low-pressure environment.
Evening:
You assist in hosting the casual Weekly AI Meetup for the Portland community, gaining exposure and confidence in a supportive setting.
What We're Looking For: Potential Over Pedigree
We're not looking for a "perfect resume." We're looking for the right person ready to make a change. You might come from a background in retail management, customer service, teaching, or hospitality-but what matters more is your transferable skill set: your ability to connect, empathize, and communicate. You're naturally curious, eager to learn, and you love helping people articulate their ideas or work through a problem out loud.
You are hungry for a new challenge, committed to mastering a new industry, and ready to follow a proven system to build a meaningful, high-earning career in AI.
What You'll Get: Stability and Support for Your Pivot
We provide everything you need to succeed:
A 6-Month On-Ramp: A $2,000/month guaranteed base salary for the first 3 months, followed by a $2,000/month draw against commission for months 4-6. This provides stability as you build your pipeline.
Uncapped Earning Potential: After the on-ramp, you move to a straight commission model with 50% commission on upfront projects (average $10k, so $5k commission) and 25% recurring commission on monthly retainers.
Comprehensive Training: Access to our full library of pre-recorded AI and Business training modules, designed for non-technical professionals.
A Full Tech Stack: We provide paid accounts for Otter.ai, Zoom, Manus, and our proprietary knowledge base platform.
Marketing & Branding Assets: Your own website, email address, and swag to establish your brand in the Portland market.
Direct Mentorship: Weekly coaching calls to review your pipeline, role-play sales calls, and co-host your first roundtables. We are invested in your transition.
The Bottom Line
If you are ready to trade your current industry for a high-growth career in AI, and you thrive on connecting with people and helping them succeed-we have the training and the system to get you there.
This is a conversation-led, curiosity-fueled, and relationship-first role with a clear path to success.
Apply today, and let's talk about how you can successfully pivot your career and become a leader in AI in Portland!
