2008

Deepinder describes Pankaj as a “turning point for the company”. The team of FoodieBay was just 6 in number but in a short span of 9 months, they became the biggest restaurant directory in the Delhi NCR region by late 2008.

2010

It was in 2010 when Foodiebay was officially rechristened as Zomato.

2011

In 2011, it expanded across India to Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad.

With the introduction of .xxx domains in 2011, Zomato also launched zomato.xxx, a site dedicated to food porn.

2012

By 2012, overseas operations of Zomato started operating in full gear with the UAE, Sri Lanka, Qatar, United Kingdom, Philippines, and South Africa becoming a part of its user base.

In 2012, it expanded operations internationally in several countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Sri Lanka, Qatar, the United Kingdom, the Philippines, and South Africa.

2013

In the November 2013, another lucky round of funding got a new investor to pitch in- Sequoia Capital.

In 2013, it added Turkey, Brazil, and New Zealand to its ever-growing list of expansions.

In 2013 it acquired Portuguese company Gastronauci and the Italian service Cibando.

In 2013, expanded to in New Zealand, Turkey, Brazil and Indonesia, with website and apps available in Turkish, Portuguese, Indonesian and English languages.

2015

2015 came in with the need of Zomato laying off 300 employees in order to curb losses, and 10% of these layoffs came to be in the US. Another setback in the States happened when Zomato aquired Urbanspoon and rebranded the company as their own.

In 2015, the firm acquired Seattle-based food portal Urbanspoon, which led to the firm's entry into the United States and Australia.

2016

In 2016, things went so out of control that as a result, Zomato had to roll back its operations in several countries including the US, UK, Chile, Canada, Brazil, Sri Lanka, Ireland, Italy, and Slovakia.

2017

In 2017, the company claimed to have turned profitable in all the 24 countries that they operated in, along with rolling out a zero commission model.

2018

However, this co-founder resigned from Zomato in May 2018, where he served as a "conscience keeper, and a support system during upheavals," as he had described his role, for over 10 years.

The Ant Financial led $210 mn funding round that came in October 2018 was the last major before these rounds.

2019

The company partnered with Paytm to expand its food ordering business online in India on January 18, 2019

Zomato and BioD Energy had collaborated to reduce the wastage of cooking oil in the country on October 21, 2019

Chaddah founded Shyft (formerly Mindhouse) in November 2019, where he currently serves as a Co-founder.

2020

In May 2020, Zomato further laid off 520 employees due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The acquisition of Uber Eats - India, which was materialised on Jan 21, 2020, remains one of the most prominent acquisitions of the company.

The Deepinder Goyal-led food delivery unicorn reported to deliver 4250 orders per minute during the same time in 2020.

2021

The foodtech giant even bagged the top honors at the seventh edition of The Economic Times Startup Awards, including the Startup of the Year award in 2021.

2022

The stock price of Zomato dropped to become Rs 71.6 on 29th April, which was last recorded at Rs 141.35 on 3rd January 2022.
