1995

It sold its first book in 1995.

1998

In June 1998 it began selling CDs, and later that year it added videos.

1999

In 1999 Bezos added auctions to the site and invested in other virtual stores.

2005

As more companies battled for Internet dollars, Bezos saw the need to diversify, and by 2005 Amazon offered a vast array of products, including consumer electronics, apparel, and hardware.

2006

In 2006, he leased his mines to Chinese government-owned – CITIC Ltd. worth $2.8 billion in today’s money, including royalties on any ore produced.

Amazon diversified even further in 2006 by introducing Amazon Web Services (AWS), a cloud-computing service that eventually became the largest such service in the world.

2007

In late 2007 Amazon released a new handheld reading device called the Kindle, a digital book reader with wireless Internet connectivity, enabling customers to purchase, download, read, and store a vast selection of books on demand.

2008

Clive Palmer bought Gold Coast United in 2008, also opened a dinosaur park called Palmersaurus.

2009

Clive Palmer later acquired Queensland Nickel and the Palmer Nickel and Cobalt Refinery in 2009.

2010

Amazon announced in 2010 that sales of Kindle books had surpassed those of hardcover books.

2012

In 2012, he announced his grand plan to resurrect the doomed ship – Titanic.

He departed from the National Party in 2012 following disputes with the federal leadership of the Liberal Party (under which the National Party functioned in Queensland).

2013

In 2013, he resurrected the United Australia Party, naming it to Palmer United Party, and later won the Sunshine Coast seat of Fairfax in the Australian federal elections.

Bezos bought The Washington Post and affiliated publications for $250 million in 2013.

2014

Palmer United earned a third seat in an April 2014 special election.

2016

In 2016, Clive Community Services was launched to provide food, clothing and limited healthcare to low-income residents.

2018

Bezos’s net worth was calculated in 2018 at $112 billion, making him the richest person in the world.

2019

The couple announced in January 2019 that they were divorcing, and the following day the National Enquirer printed a story revealing that Bezos was having an affair with another woman.

He again resurrected the party rebranding to United Australia Party, ended up running candidates for lower house seats in the 2019 federal election with Clive Palmer running for the Queensland senate seat, the party failed to acquire any seat.

In 2020, there were petitions to remove Clive of India’s statue from outside the Foreign Office in London.

2021

In February 2021 Bezos announced that he would be stepping down as CEO later that year.
