The Service Department is responsible for servicing and installing various natural gas appliances (residential and commercial), setting and maintaining residential and light commercial meters, restoring gas service to customers, and responding to after-hours and emergency calls. We are looking for Trainee-Service to join our team! Important Note: This role is considered safety sensitive, and as such, you may be required to undergo various background screenings. This may include but is not limited to a driving record abstract, criminal check, a company sponsored medical and drug testing. This position reports to our Concord Operations Center in Concord, North Carolina. What You Will Do: Assist in the installation of natural gas appliances, meters, and facilities in an efficient and safe manner while achieving excellent customer service. Use Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) to distribute and route work orders to computers mounted in company vehicles. Light gas pilots on natural gas residential and/or commercial appliances. Complete minor appliance repairs. Run customer fuel lines. Complete appropriate paperwork in writing and on the computer. Safely drive a company vehicle. Operator Qualifications involve written guidelines and requirements natural gas employees must follow to ensure the safe and responsible operation of natural gas pipelines. Required, annual Operator Qualification testing involves both written and hands-on components to ensure those who perform covered, safety-sensitive tasks on the natural gas system are trained, knowledgeable, and qualified. Who You Are: Trainee-Service (0 - 6 months experience) Completed high school or equivalent (i.e. GED) Possess a valid driver's license with a safe driving history. Ability to understand and follow safety and environmental policies, procedures, and protocols. Must have knowledge and skills with common hand and power tools. Effective communication skills for positive customer interactions are critical. Ability to work in enclosed areas such as crawl spaces, basements, and attics. Ability to work on elevated areas such as roofs and utilize ladders, scaffolding and lifts. Ability to adhere to safe working and defensive driving procedures. Willingness to work as a team member within a diverse team. Basic computer and internet navigation skills. Ability to serve as a natural gas emergency responder. Availability for overtime and after-hours, on-call work (including weekends and holidays, if needed). Must be willing and able to meet a 45-minute emergency response time from the geographical center of the Concord area. Emergency response time is a critical measure for the Company and candidates are required to consistently meet this requirement, including when on-call. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience: A demonstrated knowledge of safety procedures. A good mechanical aptitude.
