Under limited supervision, the Field Service Technician applies knowledge of electronics and circuitry to test, repair, and install a group of Sperry Marne (SMI) products. Will analyze system malfunctions and make repairs under tight shipboard schedules. Will use complex schematics and/or blueprints to achieve objectives for assigned tasks.
This role is in a shipboard working environment: regularly attending vessels at docks and loading facilities, at anchorages via crewboat transfers or by helicopter; working on radar masts 50-60 feet above deck or in spaces 100 feet below main deck; working also in shipyards around new construction on ships; works exposed to weather at times.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
+ Installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and tests marine products, normally aboard customers' vessels but may include land based and shop work.
+ Oversees and supervises the shipboard installation of all Sperry Marine products. Stays with installed product during sea trial and makes adjustments to ensure proper working order.
+ Performs training aboard ship to satisfy customer operational requirements.
+ Provides and assists in the training of less experienced employees.
+ Establishes and maintains customer relationships through routine visitations and contacts at customers' offices and vessels.
+ At all times, promotes the company's products and services through customer relationships.
+ Performs administrative functions including job paperwork, time sheets, expense records, and computer entries of such records.
+ Prior to jobs aboard vessels, studies previous service records and secures sufficient information, tools and spare parts to ensure a high success rate.
+ After jobs aboard vessels, provides adequate follow up to ensure customer satisfaction or to arrange follow up service.
+ Prepares service reports on product malfunctions and reports of weekly activities.
** Minimum Requirements**
+ High School Diploma
+ 5 years of strong technical, electronic experience; or an Associate's Degree in a technical discipline plus evidence of technical, electronic experience.
+ Prior experience with electronic and electro-mechanical theory.
+ Must have a valid FCC General License plus radar endorsement or the ability to obtain and maintain one.
+ Ability to frequently move and position objects weighing 40-50 lbs.
+ Must by physically capable to take a launch service 5 to 100 miles offshore and board vessels by Jacob's ladder.
+ Ability to work in areas of height or confined spaces.
+ Ability to be subject to a variety of atmospheric conditions.
+ Ability to use standard test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, RF testing sets.
+ Solid understanding of basic computer networking/IP addressing.
+ Basic understanding of NMEA/IEC serial interfacing.

+ Associates Degree in Electronics Engineering
+ Experience with Marine Navigation equipment, to include RADAR, VDR (Voice Data Recording), Gyrocompasses, Steering/ autopilot systems, and ECDIS (Desirable).
Primary Level Salary Range: $55,800.00 - $75,000.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. Job Details:
This is a 1099/per call position
Pay is based solely on the number of calls completed.
Calls start at $35 and go up based on distance traveled
Pay period: Every Friday after the first week worked
Tickets are run Monday-Friday during the day shift. Candidates must be regularly available a minimum of 3 weekdays to be considered.
Call volume is variable but is usually 2-5 calls per day
You will complete certifications from Dell and Lenovo as part of your onboarding. Certifications are online and free to you.
You must have a reliable form of transportation and a valid driver's license to run these calls. You will be visiting multiple work sites throughout your day.
You must have access to a computer and the Internet to log onto your portal each day.
You must be available to log into your tech portal each morning you are working by 9 am to code your calls and map out your route for the day.
The manufacturer has completed troubleshooting and shipped a part prior to your ticket being issued to you.
You will confirm service times with the customer in your tech portal. Services will be completed at the customer site (residential and commercial)
You will pick up parts daily from the assigned Fed Ex or UPS store for your territory before going onsite. Once all calls are completed for the day drop off the old parts with the pre-paid label that is provided.

Conduct preventive maintenance (PMs), troubleshooting, and retrofits to optimize the performance and reliability of mission-critical power distribution systems.
Utilize electrical test equipment such as Voltmeter, Megger, Ammeter, Hi-Pot, and Ratiometer to diagnose system performance.
Work with generator control systems and power management strategies to ensure seamless operation.
Support and develop Methods of Procedures (MOPs) for testing, maintenance, and emergency responses.
Provide high-quality customer service, offering technical recommendations and guidance to clients.
Complete detailed Field Service Reports and ensure documentation is submitted in a timely manner.

Qualifications:

JOB SUMMARY
The Heavy Equipment Field Service Technician will be responsible for servicing and repairing Caterpillar heavy equipment and/or engines at customer locations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION
Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair and perform preventative maintenance on all component of heavy equipment such as electrical codes, engines, fuel systems, hydraulics, power generation and power trains
Responsible for removal and installation of heavy equipment engine components according to Caterpillar standards and technical service manuals

Technical degree (DeVry, Lincoln Tech, etc.), Military Training, or certification in electrical engineering, power systems, or related field a plus
3-6+ years of field service experience in electrical testing, commissioning, and maintenance of switchgear, generator controls, PLCs, and power distribution systems
Strong troubleshooting experience down to the component level on Protective Relays and Breakers, PDUs, STS, ATS, Switchgear, and Power Monitoring Systems, Control Panels, etc.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting one-line diagrams and electrical schematics
Experience with protective relays from manufacturers such as SEL, ABB, GE, Siemens is a plus
Generator Controls / Sync / OEM factory training or experience working in the field with: Kohler, CAT, Cummins, Generac, a plus
Switchgear OEM factory training or experience working in the field with: Siemens, ABB, Mitsubishi, Eaton, Schneider, Fuji, a plus
UPS OEM factory training or experience working in the field with: Emerson / Liebert / Vertiv; APC / MGE / Schneider , or Eaton / Powerware / PDI , a plus
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience using CMMS or field service software
Knowledge of general computer hardware & software applications
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong customer service abilities
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., perform bending/kneeling, and work in confined spaces when required
Clean driving record and ability to travel nationwide for projects and emergency support.
Candidate must be willing to work nights & weekends when necessary / be on call when needed
Previous experience in the Military / Military Veterans a huge plus! Experience with Electrical / Mechanical: Navy nukes - EMN, ETN, MMNs, Seabees, Army - Power Generation, Air Force - Power Production, Generator Techs, Maritime, Coast Guard, Army National Guard, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

Job Description
Field Service Technician
As a Field Service Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, operation, and maintenance of process control instrumentation at customer sites with minimal supervision.
Prime Responsibilities
Perform routine calibrations of process control instrumentation
Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation to a variety of flow meters, transmitters, controllers and associated equipment to meet customers' requirements
Visually inspects, tests, and recommends changes to ensure required installation meets manufacturer's standards for operation
Observes processes, apply, and develop tests and procedures to detect proper or malfunctioning operation of equipment
Determine possible system faults prior to departing for on-site service calls, in order to determine test equipment and spare parts that may be required
Identify opportunities for upgrades at the customer site
Provide accurate, professional, and timely documentation of service calls
Communicate effectively with customers, principals, co-workers, and management providing information regarding the nature of problems, course of action to be taken and schedule for completion of work
Qualifications
Associates degree in a technical field, or equivalent training and experience
5+ year's previous experience installing, maintaining, and repairing instrumentation

Travel
