Fireco history

The first apparatus was a second-hand Ford fire truck which was purchased in April 1919 for $1,850.00.

A plan drawn out for a new firehouse by the borough in 1922, and land was purchased on Maple Avenue, near the center of town.

The demand for fire protection grew and in November, 1924 the fire hail was expanded to provide room for an additional fire engine.

In January 1927 a 450 gallon Hahn Pumper truck was purchased at a cost approximating $5,100.00.

In 1932, the Company purchased a new Quadruple Pumper for $7,500.

A few years later, in 1938, the company purchased an emergency scene lighting system for fire scenes.

The first ambulance was a 1941 Chrysler New York.

In 1943 a community ambulance service was established free to all the residents.

In January 1952 a new American-LaFrance 750 gallon pumper was ordered at a cost of $16,760.00.

In May, 1954 the social quarters were completely air conditioned for an additional cost of $9,000.00.

The Muhlenberg Lions Club contacted the Central Fire Company to ask if they would house a 1961 Cadillac Ambulance.

In October, 1963 a building project added an engine room and club quarters to the facility costing $143,000.00.

A new state of the art Ken Key Tab system was installed in the social quarters in the fall of 2003.The Central Fire Company remains a free standing organization of the community.
