SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has direct reports and supervises employees on daily tasks. This position has the responsibility and authority to carry out assigned tasks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
* Beginner to intermediate computer skills specifically using Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to learn additional computer skills or software programs. Working knowledge of advanced software applications is preferred.
* Ability to enter data accurately into databases.
* Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
* Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

QUALIFICATIONS:
* Associates degree desired.
* FAA A&P Certificate desired.
* 5+ years of experience in aviation related technical areas and demonstrated leadership skills required.
* Experience supporting a NASA/DoD contract desired.
* Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance.

Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Operations Manager, the ShiftSupervisor is responsible for the operation of the plant in a safe and environmentally compliant manner while always seeking continuous improvement. This objective is accomplished by orchestrating numerous tasks carried out by a team of skilled hourly workers during a specific shift while coordinating communications with maintenance, dispatch, superiors, and subordinates.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
* Responsible for assuring that all safety rules and regulations are followed including the coordination and supervision of equipment isolation and LOTO procedures.
* Responsible for assuring that the station is operating within established guidelines for company, state and federal environmental regulatory compliance.
* Responsible for all personnel in the station, station activities, proper operation of station equipment, and the continuity of operations from shift to shift.
* Responsible for the proper start-up and shutdown of generating units, including the coordination of switching with Load Dispatchers.
* Responsible for ensuring competence levels of all direct reports on shift team and developing training plan with Operations Manager to correct deficiencies
* Responsible for general housekeeping and cleanliness of assigned equipment and overall plant.
* Responsible for collateral duties and special projects as assigned.
* Responsible for communicating and leading in accordance with company vision and core values.
Working Conditions:
* Normal power plant environment and/or out-of-doors work environment. (Including working at heights, high/low ambient temperatures and high humidity areas at generating unit work locations.)
* Requires operation of a motor vehicle and a valid Driver's License.
* Requires operation of a personal computer.
Minimum Requirements:
* High school diploma or GED
* Minimum of 8 years of experience in power plant operations or a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Technology, or other relevant degree
* The position is a DOT PHMSA covered position and requires the successful candidate to pass a pre-employment DOT drug screen and drug and alcohol testing background check, and once placed will be a participant in the NRG DOT Program
Preferred Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Engineering or similar discipline
* Experience in a lead or head plant role
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Attention to detail and strong organizational and leadership skills
* Ability to work well under pressure, remaining focused and calm in the face of distractions.
* Excellent communications skills including written, verbal and motivational.
* Ability and willingness to lead and train subordinates to fully realize maximum team potential in accordance with bargaining unit agreement.
* Ability to coordinate numerous activities under stress with poise, safely and successfully.
* Knowledge or ability to learn computerized maintenance management applications.

Physical Requirements:

* Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect, or collect data on plant equipment
* Work overtime and non-standard working hours, including rotating shifts as required.
* Requires occasional travel outside service area
* Occasionally requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, masks, etc.)
* May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials and chemicals
* Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities
