Position Summary
The Student Assistant plays a key role in promoting and implementing Transportation Solutions (TS) programs that make sustainable commuting easier, more affordable, and more accessible for the SJSU community. Established over two decades ago and funded by student fees, TS is dedicated to reducing single-occupant driving to campus, encouraging the use of public transit, and helping students travel safely and affordably so they can focus on their education-not their commute.
In this position, the Student Assistant serves as the first point of contact for students and community members who visit the front desk, call, or email. As the face of our department, this role helps create a welcoming and professional first impression while assisting commuters with their transportation needs. The Student Assistant contributes to the creation of marketing/informational/wayfinding materials, responds to student inquiries, provides personalized trip-planning support, supports data analysis for transit programs, and engages the campus community through creative outreach activities.
Collaboration is key in this role. The Student Assistant works closely with the Associated Students Marketing Department, the General Services Center, other A.S. and SJSU departments, and occasionally with outside agencies and community partners to ensure programs and services are effectively coordinated, promoted, and accessible to all.
Essential Functions
Greet and assist visitors in person, by phone, and via email courteously and professionally.
Respond to customer inquiries and complaints by identifying issues, providing appropriate solutions, and ensuring timely resolution.
Handle sensitive documents with discretion and maintain compliance with confidentiality policies and regulations, including FERPA.
Support regular reporting of TS transit and bicycle program transactions; compile and generate reports as directed.
Maintain departmental records and perform data entry and updates as needed.
Organize department files, maintain a clean office environment, and monitor office and promotional inventory supplies.
Conduct research and analysis; prepare reports to support management decision-making.
Provide transportation information and travel planning guidance to students, promoting alternatives to driving alone.
Collaborate with internal departments and external agencies on events and program coordination.
Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating marketing strategies, outreach campaigns, and special projects.
Participate in and help coordinate outreach activities, representing the department through event planning, presentations, and tabling.
Support the promotion of annual commute surveys and assist in soliciting prize donations from local businesses.
Assist in creating and planning social media content and digital outreach efforts.
Draft written communications, including campus-wide emails and promotional messages.
Participate in all staff meetings and regular one-on-ones with supervisor(s).

About the role!
The Classroom Assistant will play a vital role in assisting the Teacher in presenting and preparing lessons, as well as preparing materials, activities, and reports. POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Director of Culinary Services and Hospitality and following established procedures, performs a Culinary Academy Teaching Assistant function. Job performance contributes to the achievement of the Kneaded Culinary Academy's goals. Assists with gathering equipment and ingredients for Culinary Academy classes. Loads equipment and ingredients before classes and unloads equipment and ingredients after classes.
Assists with set-up and breakdown of tables, mobile kitchens, canopies, and other equipment needed to facilitate Culinary Academy classes.
Maintains clean, safe kitchen(s), dining room(s). Including, but not limited to, cleaning tables & chairs, restocking supplies, washing dishes, sweeping, and mopping floors.
Assists Culinary team in helping students to develop culinary skills, job readiness skills, and professionalism.
Assists in teaching students of the Culinary Academy, on and off campus, including communicating with candidates, interviewing prospective students, teaching the curriculum, assessing students for program completion, and supporting students after program completion.
Provides direct service and group facilitation for disenfranchised youth and other diverse populations.

POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Director of Culinary Services and Hospitality and following established procedures, performs a Culinary Academy Teaching Assistant function. Job performance contributes to the achievement of the Kneaded Culinary Academy's goals. TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITES AND DUTIES:
Assists with gathering equipment and ingredients for Culinary Academy classes. Loads equipment and ingredients before classes and unloads equipment and ingredients after classes.
Assists with set-up and breakdown of tables, mobile kitchens, canopies, and other equipment needed to facilitate Culinary Academy classes.

Assists Culinary team in helping students to develop culinary skills, job readiness skills, and professionalism.

Provides direct service and group facilitation for disenfranchised youth and other diverse populations.

Assists with gathering equipment and ingredients for Culinary Academy classes. Loads equipment and ingredients before classes and unloads equipment and ingredients after classes.
Assists with set-up and breakdown of tables, mobile kitchens, canopies, and other equipment needed to facilitate Culinary Academy classes.
Maintains clean, safe kitchen(s), dining room(s). Including, but not limited to, cleaning tables & chairs, restocking supplies, washing dishes, sweeping, and mopping floors.
Assists Culinary team in helping students to develop culinary skills, job readiness skills, and professionalism.
Assists in teaching students of the Culinary Academy, on and off campus, including communicating with candidates, interviewing prospective students, teaching the curriculum, assessing students for program completion, and supporting students after program completion.
Provides direct service and group facilitation for disenfranchised youth and other diverse populations.
Assists with recruiting and enrollment, as needed.
Exercises good judgment, remaining calm and deescalating conflict when appropriate.
Assists in reviewing curriculum, planning lessons, and development of new curriculum as needed.
Assists with Kneaded Bakery and Catering as needed.
Uses program assessment tools and demonstrates cultural competency by effectively working with people differing in value systems, ethnicity, cultural backgrounds, language capabilities, disabilities and professionals of different disciplines, cultural background, and value systems.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Associate degree in child development, culinary services, hospitality, other related field, or experience preferred.
Bilingual/Bicultural (Spanish/English) and/or other threshold languages preferred.
LICENSE(S):
Food Handlers card or equivalent sanitation and food safety certification, or ability to obtain certification within 2 months of hire.
California driver's license, California Identification card or other proof of ability to legally be employed in the United States
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Ability to use kitchen equipment daily.
Ability to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 50 lbs.
Ability to hear sound that may signal a hazardous situation in the kitchen, and ability to understand warnings from other staff regarding dangers in the kitchen.
Ability to sense odors which may signal a hazardous situation in the kitchen.
Ability to read, write, and understand English.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Basic knowledge of correct storage of food, supplies, and chemicals.
Good communication skills, and the ability to engage with disenfranchised populations in a professional and supportive manner.
