POSITION SUMMARY Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is excited to add Summer Camp Counselors to the team! These temporary, 40-hour per week positions will assist with the operations of summer day camps for kids and/or teens at Eastway Regional Recreation Center. This position will provide direct supervision of campers and assist in planning and directing camp activities, such as athletics, games, arts, and crafts, aquatics, field trips, etc. In addition, the incumbents may also participate in membership promotions, communicate facility policies to patrons and overall customer service management at the facility. The dates of this temporary employment opportunity will include a mandatory orientation, staff training and Summer Camp. Specific dates will be discussed during the interview process, but the selected candidates will be expected to work 40 hours per week during the summer. As a counselor, you'll be hands-on in the classroom, execute smooth and welcoming drop-off and pick-up routines, guide campers through snack time and post-care activities, and assist with light administrative tasks that keep our summer running seamlessly. While you will report directly to the Education Operations and Administrative Manager and the Camps and Community Programs Manager, you will work closely with the entire education team. When you step into this dynamic role at one of the largest professional theatres for young audiences, you will gain hands-on experience supporting summer programs that serve thousands of children and teens each summer. You will: Build real-world classroom skills by observing and assisting professional teaching artists, learning strategies for classroom management, lesson structure, and diverse teaching approaches. Observe and assist teaching artists as they adapt instruction to meet the needs of different age groups and skill levels, helping shape curriculum and student experiences to meet varying student needs. Grow as a future teaching artist by leading theatre games, activities, and aftercare sessions-applying what you learn directly with students of varying ages and abilities. Receive training in inclusive practices, including strategies for supporting students with special needs, neurodiverse learners, and those who benefit from trauma-informed care. Immerse yourself in a professional theatre setting, with opportunities to connect one-on-one and in small groups with Children's Theatre of Charlotte's artistic leadership. Requirements Our Expectations… You must secure and provide your own housing in Charlotte. You must be able to provide your own reliable transportation to and from the theatre or the summer satellite camp locations.
