Each educator is required to attend an orientation/training on June 4 and 5, 2026 and will work during camp weeks for a minimum of 37.5 hours/week and no more than 40 hours/week
. They will also be compensated for 10 hours of prep work at the start of camps for research and lesson plan preparation, per different camp theme. If teaching the same camp for a different age group, educators will be compensated an additional 5 hours of prep work. Camp sessions run from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm. Educators are expected to report from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm to prepare their classrooms before camp and to clean up after each day.
Pay Range: $30-$32/hour based on experience.

What You'll Do
As a Summer Camp Lead Educator, you will be responsible for developing and implementing
art-based lesson plans that connect to the DAM collection
. You will guide up to 20 campers through in-gallery experiences and art projects relating to these experiences. You will:
Develop and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials
Compile a supply list (within given budget)
Visit the DAM ahead of time to plan lessons and choose which
specific
galleries to use with campers
Set up and organize workshops
Prep materials
Work collaboratively and thoughtfully with a co-facilitator (Seasonal Educator) assigned by the DAM. This includes sharing lesson plans with the Seasonal Educator ahead of time and dividing tasks through the day. Seasonal Educators are not aides but co-facilitators and should be treated as such.
Set classroom expectations with campers for appropriate camp behavior
Greet students and track attendance
Use a variety of instruction strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, discovery, etc. both in the galleries and in classroom
Plan and include engaging in-gallery activities and experiences each day for campers
Integrate a teaching practice that centers equity and diversity in their camp
Facilitate and support campers with artmaking projects
Plan a culminating end-of-class gallery walk or presentation with campers for their family and friends
Utilize effective and compassionate classroom management techniques, including social-emotional and/or behavioral interventions if needed
Communicate with caregiver(s) as needed

RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as lead educator for 5 sessions of two-week speciality Milk & Honey Farm Camp.
Develop and document diverse, age appropriate activities for each Milk & Honey Farm Camp

POSITION SUMMARY:
The summer camp riding counselor is responsible for teaching students of all ages and skill levels in both Western and English riding styles, with a strong focus on safety, horsemanship, and foundational riding techniques. The counselor plays an essential role in developing lesson plans, guiding students through proper horse care, and promoting a positive, safe learning environment for all participants. This role requires availability Monday-Thursday from 8am-1pm beginning May 25th, 2026, thru August 6th, 2026. This role has the potential to transition to a long-term instructing position for the right candidate.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Teach beginner-level Western and English riding lessons in a clear, supportive manner while prioritizing safety.
Teach and guide students in riding techniques, horse care, and equine behavior.
Develop and implement individualized lesson plans for riders of all levels.
Maintain a safe riding environment and adhere to safety protocols.
Provide basic horse care, including feeding, blanketing, and simple healthcare (i.e., ointment application, medicine, simple wound care) on a rotating schedule with the team.
Supervise and care for horses, including feeding, grooming, and saddling.
Help with barn tasks such as sweeping, keeping tack organized, and maintaining a clean school barn.
Conduct regular checks of equipment and tack to ensure safety.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

Important Details
Work Schedule
: Overnight camps are a 24/7 operation. The leadership team will create a schedule that provides you with one evening off/week and segments of other time off throughout the week.
Position Duration:
Training takes place in Colorado May 16 - 29; overnight camp programs run from May 31 through August 1.
Compensation
:
Pay is determined based on position, additional responsibilities, relevant certifications, and staff tenure. Starting hourly are below:
Instructors: $440/week
Specialists: $462- $528/week
Specialized certifications eligible for end-of-season bonuses! $125 - $400 per certification
Job Duties
Provide 24-hour support with guidance, supervision, safety and comfort for participants during all activities.
Co-lead daily outdoor programming including mountain biking, rock climbing, kayaking, canoeing, SUPing and Leave No Trace principles.
Organize and participate in camp programming, ranging from outdoor sports to camp games and rituals
Follow and educate campers on safety protocols to ensure the safety and wellbeing of participants
Serve as a role model and guide campers by exhibiting appropriate behavior, attitudes, and activities
Provide exceptional customer service to parents and all participants in our programs.
If you are a trained Driver, transport up to 13 campers to and from program areas with company passenger vans.
Candidates with increased experience in one or more of our core sports may serve as a program area expert (i.e., as a Specialist) either supporting multi sport camps or instructing single sport camps in: climbing, mountain biking, whitewater paddling, or survival skills.
Your Background
Must be at least 18 years of age by the start of camp for
all positions
Drivers: Must be at least 20 years of age, 3-year valid driver's license, and have a clean driving record
+1 years of experience working with kids in a professional or volunteer setting preferred
Experience in our core sports is highly preferred, but not required for all positions (required for Specialists)
Minimum of Basic First Aid, CPR, and Mandatory Reporter certification by the start of camp (and we can point you in the right direction to get this done!!)

Cal-Wood is a 1,200 acre scenic mountain setting 15 miles northwest of Boulder. We are a non-profit bringing kids and families together with nature through outstanding environmental education programming. This summer, Cal-Wood is providing 5 weeks of summer camp programming for students aged 7-17. We are looking to hire responsible Summer CampCounselor Naturalists who are excited to work with kids while living and working in a beautiful mountain setting!
Summer CampCounselor Naturalists (SCCN) will have an exceptionally unique opportunity to provide our campers with a fun, safe, and unforgettable experience in our 1,200 acre classroom. As an SCCN, you will be responsible for the needs of a group of campers during the day and in the cabins in the evenings. This includes campers' social, physical, medical, and emotional needs. You will set a good example for behavior and attitude for your campers. You will be camping in a cabin for four (4) weeks. Instructors may also spend one or more nights a week camping in a tent (your own or one provided by Cal-Wood) as a part of our “campout night” during some of our camps. During training (June 8th-12th) you will work a regular Monday-Friday 9-5. You will also serve as a liaison between campers and administrative staff, and provide regular feedback to administrators to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of camp operations.
Responsibilities of the Summer CampCounselor Naturalist (SCCN):
Make connections with campers and develop meaningful relationships.
Lead campers through various outdoor and indoor activities, such as science lessons, hiking, fishing, eco art, and much more!
Stay overnight in-cabin with your assigned campers.
Create opportunities within the group to allow for each camper to experience success.
Be alert to the needs of campers and act accordingly and appropriately.
Communicate the needs of campers to the administrative staff when appropriate.
Show enthusiasm and encourage campers to get involved in the activities and discussions.
Be a good role model by demonstrating positivity, cleanliness, punctuality, sharing, chores, sportsmanship, and table manners.
Be consistent and fair when enforcing policies and procedures.
Maintain good public relations when interacting with parents and community members.
Instruct campers on emergency procedures and ensure procedures are followed correctly when necessary.
When transitioning campers from one location to another, always ensure all campers are accounted for before departing and after arrival.
Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff.
Support other staff in the arrival, program, and departure of all campers. This includes leading orientation meetings and tours, working with the kitchen staff, and other Cal-Wood departments.
Participate in debrief meetings at the end of each week and prepare for the following week of programs.
Qualities and Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years of age. High School diploma required.
Experience working with children is desired.
First Aid/CPR certifications required (can be completed during staff training).
Spanish fluency is highly desired, but not mandatory.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check.

$1,000/week for four weeks of camp + $500 for one week of training

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Plans and coordinates summer camp programs and activities for school-aged participants.
Plans field trips and excursions; ensures proper payment is made for trips and activities. Leads participants on activities. Provides transportation for participants by driving a 15-passenger van.
Trains and provides guidance to part-time and/or seasonal staff.

Minimum Qualifications:
