    GovCIO is currently hiring a Senior Network Administrator to manage secure network operations in support of the U.S. Coast Guard. This hybrid role is based in Alexandria, VA and requires significant on-site presence to ensure mission-critical network availability, security compliance, and performance optimization. Responsibilities: Administer and maintain NIPRNet and SIPRNet network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, TACLANEs, and ensuring compliance with DoD and DISA security standards. Implement and enforce security configurations and hardening across network devices, network support servers and endpoints in accordance with STIGs and RMF requirements. Review vulnerability scans (e.g., ACAS, SCAP), analyze findings and remediate security issues to maintain system accreditation. Develop and maintain detailed network documentation, including architecture diagrams, configuration baselines and change control records. Support RMF lifecycle activities by preparing and updating accreditation artifacts such as System Security Plans, POA&Ms, and eMASS entries. Monitor system performance and security alerts; troubleshoot connectivity, authentication and configuration issues within classified environments. Collaborate with cybersecurity teams, system engineers and program leadership to align network resources with mission requirements. Participate in technical reviews and change control boards; provide expert recommendations on design modifications and security posture improvements. Stay current with emerging technologies, DoD cybersecurity mandates, and best practices for classified network operations. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field (or commensurate experience). Minimum 6-9 years of progressive experience in network administration within DoD or federal environments. Clearance Required: Active Secret clearance. Responsibilities Security Architecture and Design: Design, develop, and implement network and system security measures that provide confidentiality, integrity, availability, authentication, and non-repudiation. Compliance and Documentation: Ensure systems comply with applicable security policies, standards, and methodologies (e.g., NIST, DoD, FISMA). System Hardening: Oversee the implementation of security configuration settings and hardening of systems (e.g., using DISA STIGs) to minimize vulnerabilities. Required Skills and Experience Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Assurance, Information Systems Security Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Experience: A minimum of 5-8 years of experience in information security engineering, system administration, and/or cybersecurity, with hands‑on experience in implementing security controls and supporting authorization processes. Technical Skills Expert knowledge of security engineering principles, secure architecture, and design concepts. Hands‑on experience with security tools such as vulnerability scanners (Nessus/ACAS), SIEM platforms (Splunk, LogRhythm), and security configuration tools (DISA STIGs, SCAP). Strong understanding of network protocols, firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, encryption techniques, and access controls. Familiarity with various operating systems (Windows, Linux, Unix) and secure configuration management. Experience with risk management frameworks, specifically the NIST RMF and/or DoD 8500 series guidance. Soft Skills Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, problem‑solving capabilities, and excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
