Duties Description Under the supervision of a Service and Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment), Student Interns will observe the performance of vehicle diagnostics; mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic repairs on vehicles and equipment. General Functions:
Under the direction of the LEAPS Program Director, the LEAPS Teaching Assistant will assist a LEAPS Instructor in the classroom to deliver a quality experience to youth. Employment is contingent upon the incumbent clearing all NYS Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) licensing requirements; these requirements include fingerprinting, background screening and clearance on the State Central Register (SCR) and Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCL) within the first 30-days of employment. Prior to being assigned to their position, the incumbent is required to complete an initial medical statement and tuberculin test. If the incumbent previously worked in a Child/Day Care setting, a prior medical statement and tuberculin test may be accepted if dated within 12-months preceding the date of the application.
Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks:
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
· Assist the classroom instructor in delivering content, managing behavior, taking attendance, supervising bathroom breaks, and other support activities.
· Familiarize oneself with the YMCA School Age Child Care objectives and consider these objectives in delivery of activities.
· Observe and follow the YMCA School Age Child Care program guidelines as well as the regulations set forth by the NYS Office of Children and Family Services.

The Teacher Assistant is responsible to aid with classroom activities, contribute to lesson planning, provide instruction, pursue individual IEP's, provide daily ADL care, assist the team in planning activities, maintain accurate & timely records and charts and participate in Agency activities.
Core Responsibilities
Aid in coordinating individual and group activities in the classroom in line with IEP goals and plans, act as back-up in absence of the teacher.
Contribute to lesson planning.
Provide individual and group instruction under the direction of the classroom teacher.
Implement the students' IEP's, lesson plans, and behavior plans.
Assist the team in planning and implementation of classroom activities.
Maintain records and charts.
Participate in activities as part of the classroom team that may include meetings, trainings, and committees.
Ensure that documentation is accurate and effectively communicates information.
Promote and oversee the safety and well-being of the individuals' we support through use of written, verbal procedures, safety equipment and awareness of any potential dangers.
Attend to personal, self-care and other program needs that the people we support cannot independently accomplish.
Keep the nursing team advised of medical and dietary concerns.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
The employee must posses one of the following:
A valid NYS Teaching Assistant Level I certification or documentation verifying that all requirements have been met and submitted to NYSED Office of Teaching.
A valid NYS classroom teacher's certificate
Must Maintain Valid Level I Teacher Assistant Certification
Travel is required. Must have a valid New York State driver's license.
