The Teacher Assistant position is responsible for supporting the Lead Teacher with the overall care and planning for the classroom and individual children, including the learning environment and volunteers. The Teacher Assistant under the direction of the Lead Teacher, provides and implements a developmentally and culturally appropriate early childhood experience for children.
Responsibilities:
Under the guidance and direction from the Lead Teacher, implement activities and experiences supporting children's health, education, and social emotional development.
Establish a learning environment according to the Creative Curriculum and Early Achiever quality standards, and ECEAP if applicable
Implement the Second Steps Personal Safety Curriculum in preschool classrooms
Provide activities and opportunities that encourage and individualized approach to the developmental level and learning style of each child.
Under the guidance and direction of the Lead Teacher, foster a positive emotional climate in the classroom based on licensing standards.
Provide guidance and support through positive interactions between children and adults
Maintain an atmosphere that encourages open communication with children and adults through back and forth conversations, warm, nurturing tones, and being down at the child's level.
Provide opportunities and support for children to understand, acquire and use verbal and non-verbal means of communicating thoughts and feelings
Under the guidance and direction of the Lead teacher, create a partnership with families that encourages engagement according to ECEAP and/or Early Achiever quality standards.
Communicate with parents on a daily basis by greeting them and discussing, as needed, events of the children's day.
Communicate with parents regarding classroom to classroom transitions, as applicable.
Maintain an accurate and up to date timesheet by clocking in and out on a consistent basis. Schedule a sub when planning for time off.
Under the guidance of the Lead Teacher, create and maintain a safe and healthy environment
Maintain inventory and upkeep of classroom supplies and materials
Report needed repairs and maintenance to the Early Learning Site Supervisor
Provide a safe, developmentally appropriate indoor and outdoor learning environment through use of the Safety and Sanitation Checklist
Apply health standards and care for the children and classroom according to licensing, Early Achiever, and ECEAP standards
Professional Development
Participate in required training according to ECEAP and/or licensing regulations.
Participate in scheduled supervision meetings, lead teacher meetings, teacher learning groups and other assigned meetings as required
Participate in Center activities and other duties as requested
Qualifications

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of the facilitator and classroom teachers.
2. Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities.
3. Work with other professionals, such as speech therapist, social worker, occupational and physical therapists.
4. Support students with emotional or behavior concerns and assist them in developing appropriate social skills.
5. Prepare materials for student as determined by the special education teacher.
6. Assist in monitoring of students' daily progress.
7. Provide instructional assistance to students in one-to-one small group settings, within the special education room or regular classroom setting, as assigned.
8. Work with parents of students as seems appropriate by the special education teacher and the Director of Special Education.
9. Provide supervisory duty to students with disabilities during non-instructional times.
10. Assist in self-help skills such as toileting (e.g. diapering, catheterization) and feeding, as necessary and assigned by the special education teacher or Director of Special Education.
11. Correctly position children in a safe and secure manner in adaptive equipment and effectively transfer orthopedically disabled children from wheelchairs to prone standers.
12. Daily implementation and follow-up of therapy plans developed by specialists to meet communication and motor skill goals of students.
13. Supervise students by enforcing safety regulations while riding the bus.
a. Properly fasten in seats when required.
b. See that each child is seated and stays seated.
c. Other safety regulations.
14. Help load and unload students requiring assistance, including wheelchair students.
15. Work cooperatively with parents, staff, and students to coordinate and communicate bus schedules and other information as needed.
16. Cooperate with drivers in filling out reports.
17. Assist with management of children with special health problems or behavior problems, e.g., seizures, attention deficit disorders
18. Be able to perform job tasks as follows:
a. Lift and carry 10-50 lbs. frequently.
b. Assist with lifting over 50 lbs. frequently.
c. Provide care to clients in toileting__requires transferring weight skills.
d. Use restraint techniques with clients when necessary.
e. Be able to bend, kneel, squat, twist, turn, and extended arm use involving various weights frequently.
f. Be on feet the majority of the work shift.
g. Must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.

**Responsibilities**
+ With supervision, complete general administrative duties on time with high quality.
