Your training is centered around learning the role of front-line operational supervisors and gain new insight into safety, maintenance and transportation procedures. This orientation enables you to observe supervisors during the operational shifts (inbound, outbound, city and DC) of an ABF Freight Service Center. You will also have a glimpse into Sales by spending time with ArcBest Account Managers. By accompanying account managers on client presentations, you will learn the dynamics of proactively managing ArcBest accounts. After training, you will be placed in one of our more than 240 facilities across the continental United States as an Operations Supervisor. Those in our top management positions all paved their way by developing and strengthening their own abilities throughout their ArcBest and ABF Freight careers. Responsibilities Provide a clean, safe working environment for all personnel and visiting customers. Coordinate work assignments and monitor performances. Provide training, performance feedback, and disciplinary recommendations, as needed. Assign job tasks to workers according to unloading and loading schedules. Plan, supervise, and control available resources associated with the timely, damage-free, and safe loading/unloading of freight on assigned shifts. Maintain appropriate load plan and ensure proper load balance for safe vehicle operation.     Under the supervision of the Management team, the Overnight Supervisor provides daily direction to the Outfitters on the overnight shift within the retail store, to include: sales floor replenishment, merchandise presentation, seasonal resets, inventory management and price change execution. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Delegates tasks and work assignments to team members by giving clear and concise direction and follow up to ensure proper execution. * Ensures adherence of all standard operating procedures and processes by team members, following up to provide training and guidance when needed. * Maintains visual presentation standards including in-store signage, proper execution of merchandise directives and planograms, merchandise recovering/front facing and general daily recovery ensuring a pleasant and productive shopping experience for all customers. * Ensures nightly replenishment of sales floor from backstock inventory, as well as new replenishment from the Distribution Centers and direct vendor deliveries. * Supports inventory management in partnership with the Inventory Control team by completing on demand counts, empty peg scanning, pick requests, display integrities, etc. during off peak business overnight. * Supports the Management team with coordination of all "Special Events"; maintenance of pricing and UPC integrity; determining proper assortments; accuracy of inventory; proper display, tagging, signing and pricing of all advertised items. * Supports the Management team in carrying out Supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company's policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, training, planning, assigning and directing work, measuring and evaluating performance, addressing complaints and resolving problems, maintaining a positive, harassment free working environment for all associates. * Assists the Management team and Human Resources Representative to staff the department with "service" oriented associates; participates in interviewing and makes recommendations for selection; coordinates training; consults with the Management team and gives input on preparation of performance appraisals; prepares weekly work schedules; coaches and motivates associates to promote positive customer relations and a productive team-oriented work environment. * Ensures all breaks and lunches are provided for overnight Outfitters in accordance with all state and local regulations. * ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED. About the Role How you will contribute * Plan, coordinate work, train, motivate, monitor and evaluate performance of team members; ensure their ability to safely operate material handling equipment to move materials. * Monitor and measure team member performance for accuracy and document on daily production metrics. * Identify and eliminate safety and housekeeping hazards to minimize workplace accidents. * Ensure compliance of employees to processes, work instructions, standard work and work elements. * Liaise with materials department to ensure on time receipt and shipment of material. * Other duties as assigned.
