POSITION SUMMARY
The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is hiring approximately 40 total Conservation CampCounselors (CCC) to work with its on-site summer camps facilitated out of our 4 zoos and 1 aquarium in New York City. This is a unique opportunity to explore education at an informal science institution. You will work part-time in the WCS Education Department. You will report to work on-site at the Prospect Park Zoo - this is not a remote work opportunity. Together with staff you will teach exciting science content, welcome campers with diverse interests, abilities, and backgrounds, and maintain a lively learning environment. RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Conservation CampCounselor (CCC) you will:
* Work on-site at the Prospect Park Zoo. This position is fully in person and there is no option for remote work.
* Follow and reinforce all health and safety protocols and procedures while implementing camp activities.
* Lead engaging summer camp programs alongside full-time education staff for children in grades Pre-K-12th.
* Spend the camp day outdoors, supervising campers in the zoo/aquarium and surrounding park space if applicable and travelling safely with campers at all times.
* Foster an inclusive camp environment for all campers.

Age Requirements:
Mini Camp, Junior Camp, Senior Camp, Specialty STEAM Camps: Must be at least age 17 by the start of camp.
Hours: Typically, from 8:30 am to 3:40 pm, Monday to Friday, with opportunities for extended hours for additional income.
Schedule Commitment: Any schedule changes or time off must be pre-approved by the site director.
Required Training: Complete all required ESF and state-mandated training and onboarding.
Dress Code: Maintain the "ESF Look" (camp uniform) and embody the spirit of the camp.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Dive into the Camp Day! Promote and participate in daily activities and projects with enthusiasm, collaborating effectively with co-counselors.
Safety & Positive Group Management: Ensure the safety and well-being of campers with emphasis on positive behavior and effective group management. Promptly report any concerns to the Site Director.
Be the Ultimate Role Model: Supervise campers, while fostering a positive, welcoming, and safe environment.
Demonstrate ESF Core Values & Code daily, from “Gratitude” to “Bring It” daily.
Model the ESF Virtues of Character (Gratitude, Respect, Trustworthiness, Effort, Kindness, Positivity, Resilience, Community) in camp daily.
Adhere to all company policies.
Communication: Maintain clear, concise, and engaging communication with campers, families, peers, and our leadership team.
Reporting Relationships:
Reports directly to and takes direction from the Camp Director, with additional accountability to the Site Director.
Additional Responsibilities:
Push/pull, lift, and carry a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds across campus. Work outside, upright, and mobile for six (6) to eight (8) hours per day .
Respond to emergencies, including running (up to 1 mile in some cases) and ascending stairs without undue exertion.

What You'll Do
* Ensures the safety and well-being of all campers in the group and camp-wide and ensures a risk-free environment for all.
* Assists with the planning and implementation of activities in accordance with the camp
* schedule, submitting written plans prior to each week or as assigned by Camp Director.
* Maintains positive relationships with campers, parents, and staff.
* Organizes and maintains camp equipment, supplies, and property.
* Actively participate in all aspects of the day camp schedule as assigned.
* Maintains camp records including, but not limited to accident & incident reports, sign in/out sheets, attendance documents, etc.
* Maintains expectation of the YMCA requirements/rations and help others do the same.
* Works collaboratively with Head Counselor for assigned group.
* Ensures compliance with all YGBW policies and standard operating procedures.
* Performs other related duties as assigned.
