Provide direct support to clients as directed, deemed or appropriate at the request and/or direction of supervisory staff. Direct support includes interpretation and translation of documents and transportation services relating to clients, program and agency. Forges mutually respectful partnerships with persons served and their families to assist them in gaining skills and confidence to address the problems and issues they face. Sets limits and maintains the helping role of the practitioner and intervenes appropriately to meet the needs of the persons or family members served. Believes in the capacity of people to grow and change. Provide interpretation & translation services, both within the Agency/Program and to outside the Agency partners, if applicable. Provide transportation, as deemed necessary, from the airport (arrival), for DHS. Social Security, health appointments, employment services clothing, supportive services, etc. Case note all appropriate contacts and activities as directed.
*This is an on call position, hours fluctuate and are not guaranteed*
High School education. Preferred is directly related experience.
Fluency in Haitian Creole/French, Swahili/French, and/or Kinyarwanda / Swahili is required. Additional relevant languages such as Arabic, Burmese, Chaldean, Chin, Dari, Farsi, Fulbe, Fulani, Kirundi, Kurdish, Lingala, Nepali, Pashtu, Somali and/or Spanish are desirable. Prefer ability to work beyond the parameters of posted Agency/Program hours of operation as necessary to complete Job Responsibilities.
Registration, licenses, certifications or special training: A valid Michigan Driver License.

Artificial intelligence developments are upending the scientific landscape and creating unprecedented research opportunities in linguistics. This is a fast growing research area that is leveraging powerful generative AI models to serve as robust artificial model systems for human language and cognition.
The University of Michigan will recruit four researchers in artificial intelligence-related research, as part of a cluster of new AI-related positions in the Departments of Linguistics, Psychology, Philosophy, and Psychiatry. All four faculty will also have the opportunity to affiliate with the Weinberg Institute for Cognitive Science.
We seek outstanding applicants with a Ph.D. in Linguistics or a related field whose research engages with artificial intelligence in linguistics and language cognition research. We encourage candidates who apply computational methods to linguistic research and engage with different perspectives on the contributions and implications of artificial intelligence, including generative AI, for linguistics. The rank and specific subfield(s) of specialization in Linguistics are open. Successful applicants are expected to hold a Ph.D. degree before the start of the appointment.
Applicants should provide evidence of a productive research record and show potential for external funding of their research program. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to curriculum development in their areas of expertise, and teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in Linguistics.

Provide accurate, impartial, and complete interpretation during medical visits, including:
Primary care, dental, behavioral health, care coordination, and other encounters
Preventive services, chronic disease management, procedures, and health education
Interpret in person, by phone, or via video as needed
Assist with interpretation for consent forms, treatment plans, discharge instructions, and follow-up care
Assist with translation of basic patient-facing materials when approved
