A Sports Coordinator at the Coffman YMCA in Springboro, OH, provides excellent leadership, support and coordination to the youth, teen and adult sports programs within the guidelines of the YMCA.

Essential Functions:
Responsible for ensuring program quality and safety.
Promotes programs by development and distribution of marketing materials in compliance with association standards.
Plans with the Branch Executive Director the league schedule and details of each program, including but not limited to, practice and game schedules, distribution of flyers to schools, ordering of supplies, coach training, and end-of-season details.
Works within budgeted guidelines as outlined by the Program Director.
Works at all games to ensure all aspects of the games and game days run smoothly.
Ensures the gym and playing field are ready for games with physical setting and equipment.
Responsible for securing, training, and compensating officials for league games.
Responsible for securing and training volunteer score keepers and time keepers as needed.
Recruits, trains and engages with parents and all volunteers.
Finds substitutes according to set procedures.
Creates an atmosphere that is based on fair play and incorporates it in a manner that is both demonstrative and professional.
Inspects gymnasium, fields, and other sports equipment, for safety hazards, damage or wear.
Ensures adequate supplies are kept including all first aid materials.
Builds relationships with members and program participants.
Remains visible to participants when on duty.
Promotes other YMCA programs ad recruits new participants in support of the Program Director's plan.
Communicates to direct supervisor any suggested improvements, concerns, needed repairs, or incidents that may need follow-up.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required. Must be 18 years of age. A 2-year college degree in Physical Education/Exercise Science/related field or applicable experience is preferred.
Must be 18 years of age.
Six or more months of related experience in the area of responsibility.
1 year minimum of supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
Proven track record building strong relationships with individuals, fostering engagement and commitment, while building community within a group.
Must hold a valid driver's license, insurable driver's record according to the YMCA's insurance carriers, and have reliable transportation to travel for business meetings, training events, YMCA site visits, vendors and suppliers, etc.

The Sports Coordinator will be responsible for assisting in the planning, some managing, and implementing quality sports leagues, recreation programs and activities targeted toward youth and adults at the North Canton and Paul & Carol David YMCAs. This position also supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
Rate of Pay:
$14-$16/hour - commensurate with experience

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for helping in the processes of planning, preparing, organizing, and delivering safe, quality sports programs to the community following the goals and values of the YMCA.
A position that requires close work with the Sports Director, Sports staff, volunteers, coaches, Parents, Youth athletes and Children of all ages.
Develops strong volunteer participation through recruiting, onboarding, training, supervising and evaluating volunteers for quality programs
Assist with association and branch events as needed. This may require helping other departments at times for the ultimate goals set out for and by the Sports Department.
This position requires the ability to be flexible in hours, as well as responsibilities, to best fit the changing needs of the different sports programs offered by the YMCA
Communicate with participants, parents, staff, and community members in a positive, professional manner. Consistent follow-up is a must.
Assist in the process of maintaining quality for all teams and programs being taught or overseen by the sports department.
Promote safety, good sportsmanship, and character values.
Promote a safe space to compete for all participants, coaches, parents, and staff; the sportsmanship needed to be a positive influence on others; and the character and values in alignment with being a good steward of the sport, the department, and expectations of the YMCA
Supervise gym, staff and fields before, during, and after class instruction (responsible for leading set up, take down and clean up). Keep and ensure that our facilities, fields, courts, and other program locations are clean and in good representation of the department.
This position would require the individual to work evenings and weekends throughout the year (Primarily during league seasons) to help support the Sports staff, as well as the youth and adult sports programs.
Complete all other jobs as assigned by Supervisors.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Working towards education in Education or Sports related field viewed highly but not required to apply.
One to two years related experience ranging from child care, youth and teen recreation, youth athletics volunteering and coaching.
Excellent public relations and conflict resolution skills in order to facilitate positive relationships with parents, staff, children, and outside agencies.
Have an attention to detail and accuracy and have the ability to delegate responsibility. Organization is important in this role.
Energetic, motivated individual who has a passion for childhood education and development.
A flexible schedule during both traditional and non-traditional work hours to best fit the needs of the different sports programming seasons
A strong communicator in all mediums. Phone, digital, and in person communication are daily necessities of the position.
An understanding and record of creating and supporting positive workplace culture.
Comfortable in settings of leading and communicating in youth recreation settings
