Under the guidance of the branch Youth and Family Program Director, the primary responsibility of the Day Camp Site Coordinator is to provide a safe environment where staff and campers can grow and thrive. Job Duties & Responsibilities With the support of branch leadership, assist in overall camp management and be responsible for the day-to-day happenings within the camp. Directly impact and inspire the lives of hundreds of campers and staff members each day through programs and actions. Directly supervise day camp counselors and day camp site leads by guiding program activities throughout the day. Document incidents and accidents by filling out an FYI for parents, and YMCA incident Report forms, and submit them to the Camp Site Director. Be the face and voice of the day camp within the camp and the community, and be welcoming to all campers, parents, and other staff. Provide support to youth development counselors and leads through guidance, encouragement, recognition, and fun. Plan, assist, and implement program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA core values for campers. Be willing to dress up, save the world, sing a song, and lose the game when necessary. Ensure a safe and nurturing environment; attend to the needs of campers at all times. Serve as a role model for all youth participating in the day camp program by displaying exemplary behavior at all times and modeling healthy eating and physical activity. Consciously create a climate in camp to foster the goals and objectives of the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit. Supervise a group of 6 - 12 children, as needed. Attend all staff meetings and training and assume equal responsibility for general housekeeping tasks. Following YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical situations and behavior management, child abuse prevention, and emergencies. Must be at least 21 years of age. EFFECT ON END RESULT: A safe environment for all individuals involved in the program. A quality experience for all individuals involved in the program. A positive image of the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit in the community. Sound management skills of the various components of the position, including all supervision. The degree to which the needs of the day camp participants and their families are being met. Education/Experience/Training/Certifications Experience working with youth is required. Previous camp experience is required. High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous leadership experience is preferred. Meets the requirements set forth by the state licensing agency. Documentation of DHS clearance before starting work, and CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Safe certifications are required within 60 days. Complete Blood Borne Pathogens training, Redwoods, and concussion training as required. Abilities & Skills The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
