IT Operations Field Specialist,

You Will:
Collaborate with operational leadership and other partners to assess and deliver on functional needs of the business in relation to hardware and software standards.
Monitor, provide assistance with and achieve resolution to all issues, service tickets and projects in given area. Enter, monitor and complete all entries in the Support Desk tracking system, which includes stating the issue(s), listing all troubleshooting steps, providing a resolution and marking the records as complete.
Communicate frequently with business leadership to have understanding of ongoing and future projects to ensure that the IT team is prepared to assist when needed.
Visit sites (not frequently required for after- hours support) and offices to check in with the managers and all other users to find new and resolve active issues.
Assist with installation, relocation, configuration, troubleshooting and ongoing usability of phones, desktop computers, peripheral equipment and software.
Interact with IT Operations Manager and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in other IT teams such as Clinical Applications, IS Admins, Service Desk and Infrastructure to resolve user issues and further develop understanding of systems, applications and workflows.
Maintain a strong working knowledge of all the equipment and systems supported by the IS Service Desk by keeping current with all documentation and by participating in continuing education programs.
Utilize industry best practices to maintain appropriate level of LAN/WAN and computer systems security as established. Identify and work with IS Admins support staff to rectify any noted deficiencies.
Assist in maintaining oversight of all IS inventory stock; including ordering, receiving, tracking, and deployment.
Perform preventative maintenance on equipment, maintain acceptable cable management practices and clean work area/computer rooms.
Evaluate existing systems and/or user/business needs to analyze, design, recommend and implement system updates and/or changes.
Monitor and maintain computer rooms, while keeping a working knowledge of the configuration and purpose of the equipment in each room.
Collaborate with vendors (Network, Voice Team, etc.) to escalate issues and create service tickets in their external ticketing system. Communicate and deliver resolution to end users.
Configure, monitor and support internal and external networks.
Provide end user support with application functionality and escalate issues as needed.
Image desktops and laptops. Build computers or change out computer parts.

Position Summary

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Individual Occupational Requirements for Information Technology (IT) Management Series, 2210 (Alternative A).
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
GS-09: Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree
GS-11: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
OR

For GS-9: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 that demonstrated knowledge of computer requirements and techniques in carrying out project assignments consisting of several related tasks, such as development of minor modifications to parts of a system on the basis of detailed specifications provided. The assignments must have shown completion of the following, or the equivalent: Analysis of the interrelationships of pertinent components of the system; planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment; and personal responsibility for at least a segment of the overall project.
For GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 that demonstrated accomplishment of computer project assignments that required a range of knowledge of computer requirements and techniques. For example, experience in developing modifications to parts of a system that required significant revisions in the logic or techniques used in the original development. Accomplishments, in addition to those noted for the GS-9, normally involve the following, or the equivalent: Knowledge of the customary approaches, techniques, and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization; planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls; and adaptation of guidelines or precedents to the needs of the assignment.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Performs a variety of minor technicalsupport duties to assist faculty, staff, and students in operating and troubleshooting a variety of technical equipment including computers, printers, and copy machines in assigned areas.
SUPERVISION received AND EXERCISED
Receives general direction from appropriate supervisor; checks with higher-level staff and/or supervisor regarding non-routine assignments. May provide technical and functional direction to assigned student workers.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
The following duties are typical for this classification.
* Serves as initial point of contact for technicalsupport; provides first-level support and performs a variety of minor technicalsupport duties in assigned areas to assist faculty, staff, and students in operating and troubleshooting a variety of technical equipment including computers, printers, and copy machines; demonstrates procedures and functionality; assists in the creation and triage of helpdesk trouble tickets.
* Assists students in accessing email, learning management system accounts, student information system.
* Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains computers and other peripheral devices.
* Performs routine maintenance on computer hardware and copiers.
* Installs computer software; sets up computer hardware for use in a laboratory environment; cleans and maintains computer related hardware and copiers.
* Troubleshoots malfunctions and performs repairs to hardware and software; prepares equipment for major repairs.
* Performs software maintenance on computers.
* Learns the operation of software in order to inform and assist students and staff.
* Maintains inventory of computer-related equipment and software; notifies appropriate staff when ordering is necessary.
* Refers more complicated issues to the higher-level staff; works collaboratively and, in a training capacity, assists Technology Support Specialists and Senior Technology Support Specialists to complete projects and tasks.
* Performs other duties related to the primary job duties.

In the absence of (12) units of college level course work in computer science or a related field, the equivalent to completion of high school and three (3) years of experience providing network administration and support consisting of responsibility for hardware, software, application support, and user training is qualifying.
