The Paralegal will play a key role in maintaining strong working relationships and meeting the team's business objectives. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and adept at managing multiple priorities with professionalism and a positive, proactive attitude.
Ideal candidates will possess four (4) or more years of experience in a corporate, business transactions, healthcare or similar paralegal practice.
Key Responsibilities:
Create documents using advanced features of software packages, working from rough drafts, or notes, and perform preliminary research as needed. Ensure correspondence is grammatically correct and ready for signature.
Drafting documents based on attorney provided templates.
Searching for corporate records in multiple jurisdictions.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date calendars for assigned timekeepers, coordinating meeting schedules and handling logistics for off-site meetings, including material, equipment, and food/beverage requirements.
Handle accurate billing for all 3 attorneys assigned to support.
Prepare outgoing mail, including overnight express, and determine the appropriate recipient for urgent mail in the absence of the timekeeper.
Coordinate travel for timekeepers, including travel advances and expense reports, based on general instructions and travel preferences.
Prepare information to open and close client files, maintain filing systems and databases, conduct preliminary conflict checks for new cases, and handle billing procedures.
Complete special assignments independently or under general direction.
Manage legal documentation and correspondence with confidentiality.
Correspond with counsel, court, and clients as needed.
Assist with billing needs.
Create and manage both digital and hard copy filing systems for assigned attorneys.
Perform various other duties as assigned.

Position works in a varied capacity and supports division attorneys by performing initial investigative review of claims filed against the Commonwealth and client agencies, including the Virginia Department of Corrections, the Virginia Parole Board, and the Department of Juvenile Justice, conducting witness interviews, preparing drafts of legal documents and memoranda for attorney review, maintaining document and file control, gathering relevant documents and video footage to include review and analysis of video footage and audio recordings, assisting in all phases of discovery and working with attorneys to handle electronic discovery, and assisting in trial preparation.
Minimum Qualifications
* Competent working knowledge of legal terminology, and court procedures.
* Position requires excellent written communication skills, as demonstrated in a writing sample (no page length requirement).
* Successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional verbal communication skills, organizational skills, proficiency in time management, the ability to work independently and as a team member, and the ability to organize and analyze large quantities of written and verbal information.
* Candidate must also demonstrate the ability to work well under pressure and adjust priorities without close supervision.
* Litigation experience is required.
* Position supports itself and requires basic word processing skills.
* Experience with Microsoft Word and E Discovery is a plus.
Additional Considerations
Bachelor's degree in related field and/or Legal Assistant Certificate is preferred; however, an equivalent combination of training and experience indicating possession of the required qualifications may substitute for educational criteria.

The successful candidate will provide the following services:
• Clerical Duties: Provide secretarial support to up to seven Employment Unit-Trial Section attorneys and provide backup secretarial support to attorneys in the General Civil Unit of the Trial Section. Duties include: prioritizing work assigned by the attorneys; typing and editing briefs, pleadings, discovery requests and responses, correspondence and memoranda, and preparing same for filing by mail, in person, or electronically; drafting correspondence for attorneys' signatures; proofreading and performing quality

• Paralegal Duties: establish files, organize and maintain electronic file for all discovery; upload discovery documents to file sharing platform; communicate with clients, experts and opposing counsel; prepare trial exhibits and materials; contact and schedule witnesses for meetings and depositions; prepare and track subpoenas and arrange for service.
• Administrative Duties: prepare and process travel vouchers and requests for travel as well as purchase, reimbursement and payment forms; arrange for conference rooms and schedule court reporters; provide backup secretarial support to other units in the Trial
Section; and electronically file, where applicable and appropriate, in the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. District Courts in the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia, the Supreme Court of Virginia and the Court of Appeals of Virginia, using
VACES and the CM-ECF/Pacer system
Minimum Qualifications

practice.
