The University of Iowa Health Care department of Radiology is seeking a Paramedic. GENERAL CLASS DESCRIPTION: Under direct supervision of a Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP), Nurse Manager, or designee, assists with patient care services. CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist technologists and physicians with procedures within interventional radiology department. Setup sterile trays. Use proper sterile techniques including skin preparation. Assist in the use of complex medical equipment during interventional procedures, including, but not limited to angioplasty devices, stents, drains, and filters. Establish rapport with patient and provide information about how the exam is performed and what is required of the patient. Under direct supervision of a Radiology staff physician and/or Department of Radiology Nurse Manager/designee Assists with basic patient care services in all areas within the Department of Radiology including CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy, Interventional Radiology, and other areas as needed. Assist in the collection of venous blood samples. Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses. Documents/reports interventions and patient/family response/education. Manages clinical visits for patients and assists providers during clinic visits. Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan. Develops, coordinates, and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care. Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Follows universal precautions. Demonstrate acceptance of responsibility; pride in work performed; flexibility in acceptance of assignments while consistently maintaining professional behavior and appearance. Follow policies and procedures in accordance with regulations set forth by the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Department of Nursing, Department of Radiology, the University of Iowa, and the Iowa Department of Public Health Paramedic Scope of Practice.
