Eating, Drinking and Smoking
Food worker may not eat, drink, or use any type of tobacco in food preparation areas. This is to prevent spills onto food and to reduce the chance of contamination.
Exception: Food workers may drink form a covered container with a straw. The drink must be stored so that it cannot spill onto food or food-contact surfaces.
Hair Restraints
Hair restraints are intended to keep hands out of hair and hair out of food. Hair must be effectively restrained whenever you are working around food or food preparation areas. Hair restraints include hairnets, hats, barbette, ponytail holders, and tight braids. Long beards must also be restrained.
Fingernails
Fingernails must be trimmed so they are easy to clean. If nail polish or artificial nails are worn, the food worker must wear gloves when preparing all foods, not just ready-to-eat foods. For example, a food worker with artificial nails would need to wear gloves when mixing batter with a spoon.
Jewelry
Jewelry can hide germs that cause foodborne illness and make it hard to wash hands. Jewelry can also fall into food. While preparing food, food workers must remove watches, rings, bracelets, and all other jewelry on the arms or hands.
Exception: Wedding rings may be worn if they are covered with a glove when the food worker is preparing food.
Personal Items
Personal items like medicine, coats, and purses must be stored away from food, dishes, and linens.

Salary: This position is based on the range 37 of the Washington State Classification Listing, which has a minimum annual salary of $40,032 and maximum annual salary of $53,136. Working Conditions: Work is performed primarily indoors, at times in hot/cold/noisy/wet areas with some exposure to hazardous equipment and products. Work requires walking and standing (often in a stationary position) for the majority of each shift. Bending/climbing/carrying/pulling/pushing/lifting associated with loading/unloading of supplies and preparation, plating and serving of food is required. Department of Human Services
Hourly Wage: $15.90/Intermittent/On-Call
Employee is responsible to provide assistance to prepare and serve daily meals at the Yakama Nation Tribal School. Provides assistance to the Food Service Manager to prepare menus, food items, and trays. Assists to clean kitchen area and wash cooking equipment. This position requires the individual to think clearly and completely to plan tasks for each menu and to organize staff and students to prepare and serve breakfast and lunch.
Examples of Work Performed:
Participates in nutrition training with Food Service Manager and Nutritionist.
Prepares food items and maintains kitchen area pursuant to USDA guidelines and Tribal School Performance Standards.
Assists to prepare breakfast and lunch meals for students, staff, and visitors.
Utilizes a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment to prepare meals.
Washes cooking equipment & utensils and cleans kitchen area.
Ensures applicable health and sanitation practices are strictly followed.
Provides assistance to maintain inventory of food items, kitchen supplies, and equipment.
Assists with accountability and receiving of supplies and food items.
Ensures supplies and food items are properly stored.
Assists to prepare a list and shop for food items and supplies.
Ensure that all dining tables, chairs, kitchen, cooking related areas and equipment are clean and in good working order at all times.
Performs daily, weekly, and monthly deep cleaning of facility, service areas, and all kitchen equipment such as counters, tables, ovens, refrigerators, freezers, mixers, transient hot carts, mobile carts, and rolling racks.
Successfully complete classes required for the position and attend meetings, and/or workshops related to the position.
As needed, provides assistance to maintain meal count of students, staff, and visitors.
Employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands; reach with hands and arms.
As instructed, performs assigned duties with some independence.
Perform any other duties related to the food services program as required.

Knowledge of methods of preparing and serving a variety of foods from fresh, canned, dry or frozen.
Knowledge of cleaning and sanitation methods used in a food service environment.
Knowledge of food storage methods.
Minimum Requirements:
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Must possess a current Food Handler's Card.
Must possess a current First Aid/CPR Card.
Required to pass pre-employment drug test.
Required to pass pre-employment background/fingerprint check.
Must have no history of child abuse and neglect.
Must have no history of drug and alcohol abuse.
Must provide a copy of a recent medical/physical examination document.
Minimum of two years successful work experience as a cook or related education in field may substitute.
Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving Permit.
Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
Preferred Requirements:
Certificate or degree in Culinary Arts course of study from an institute of higher education.
