The Technical Theater Internship is an opportunity for developing theater professionals to gain valuable experience in the areas of theater management and production. The internship is a paid, hands-on opportunity to work side by side with professional artists, administrators, and technicians to learn professional skills, deepen knowledge, and gain insight about the functioning of an arts non-profit. This internship is the perfect way to bridge the gap between your college studies and your first professional theater job.
Job Title: Technical Theater Internship
Duration of Internship: June 9-August 5, 2026; Plan on arriving in Sitka on Tuesday, June 9th and departing on Wednesday, August 5.
Camp operates on a 7-day per week schedule. Staff will be expected to work frequent nights and weekends, including long days during productions. Time off will be scheduled around the demands of the program.
Internship Description:
The Technical Theater Intern will have opportunities to learn working alongside our technical theater team to:
Prepare and execute nightly performances.
Help with all aspects of technical production throughout the summer season including audio, lighting, rigging, scenic, and video production in two venues: a 600 seat, state-of-the-art theater and a 300 seat auditorium.
Work with middle and high school students running technical equipment and assist in daily classes during camp.
General assistance and overseeing of the technical aspects of camp daily operations.
Assist in moving, setting up, and striking equipment for shows and events on the SFAC campus.
Assist with load-ins, strikes, technical rehearsals and performances as needed.
Assist with execution of the summer musical.
Required Experience:
Prior knowledge of theatrical lighting, sound, and video technology and a drive to learn more in these areas

General Internship Guidelines
The internships will be 40 hours a week.
The internship begins May 2026 and concludes in April 31, 2027.
Must be between the ages of 18 and 28 years old at the time of acceptance of the internship.
College graduate preferred.
Interns will have 15 days off for a 12-month internship and 11 days off for a 9-month internship.
The supervisor will set working hours.
Interns will be given a stipend of $ 1,446.16 per month, paid bi-weekly.
At the completion of the internship in May, interns who complete the entire program will receive an additional $100 for each month they participate.
