Department Summary
The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) is a team of legal professionals who manage the legal affairs of the university. Led by the Vice President and General Counsel, there are six full-time attorneys in the office who provide timely, creative, and practical legal advice to university leadership, including the Board of Trustees, President, Provost, vice presidents, vice provosts, deans, and directors on the development and implementation of initiatives in support of the university's mission. In everything it does, the office seeks to ensure that university leaders are well equipped to navigate higher education's complex regulatory landscape and to promote a climate of ethical behavior, integrity and accountability.
OGC attorneys are true generalists with working knowledge and expertise in a broad array of practice areas, including labor and employment, intellectual property, civil rights, constitutional law, contracts and real estate, to name a few. The office is solely responsible for the comprehensive representation of the university's interests in litigation, administrative proceedings, and business transactions, including engaging outside counsel when prudent.
Position Summary
The Legal Assistant is a key member of the Office of the General Counsel's team. The position's work includes, but is not limited to: litigation and claims support, including evidence preservation and managing discovery requests made of the University; legal and administrative support related to collective bargaining, including review of bargaining proposals and assistance with arbitrations or grievances brought by unions under the CBAs; legal research; evaluating and responding to subpoenas and other requests for information; compiling required reports for federal and state agencies; and tracking and compiling data for internal analysis and reporting.

Duties and Essential Functions of a Legal Assistant 1
In support of the mission and values of the Attorney General's Office and under general supervision in a legal setting, independently performs a variety of complex clerical and basic technical legal assignments in an efficient, positive and professional manner by providing some reception and primary contact for discovery for all employees within the Vancouver Regional Services Division office. Primary Responsibilities:
Manage and maintain corporate licensing and corporate insurance records.
Oversee personal and private fleet insurance, including renewal schedules and claim management.
Serve as Safety Committee Director and Organizer, ensuring compliance and proactive workplace safety.
Handle family estate planning documentation and coordination with legal counsel.
Maintain general liability insurance and licensing compliance for all company entities and state operations.
Oversee and manage internal claims, tracking outcomes and maintaining confidentiality.
Collaborate with leadership, HR, and accounting to align compliance and insurance documentation.
Support the expansion of state security operations, ensuring proper licensing and insurance coverage.
Prepare and arrange annual board minutes and corporate meetings.
Attend the mandatory Wednesday corporate meeting.

Strong attention to detail and ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
Must be able to pass a background check, drug screening, and have a clean driving record.
Ability to work under confidentiality clauses and sign a company and family NDA.
Excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to coordinate across departments.

Essential Responsibilities
Serve as diversion specialist for clients, including check-ins, dismissal process and end process
Serve as Interlock device specialist for all clients
Serve as primary contact for former clients reaching out with questions
Monitor no-complaint cases for filing status
Use case management software to record daily actions/communications for all client interactions
Scan and attach paperwork to matters for any remote legal assistants
Prepare and mail Diversion workbooks to clients as requested
Collaborate with marketing team on Diversion workbook updates
Draft and proof motions to dismiss or vacate as requested
e-File documents related to the dismissal process or interlock device removal process
Prepare and e-file motions to cancel status check hearings
Prepare and file notices of substitution
Manage incoming and outgoing legal department mail
Monitor and update internal Wiki pages pertaining to dismissal process, diversion end process, interlock removal process for all jurisdictions
May work on special projects, such as the White Glove Diversion Program
Create big white sheet for legal team metrics each week
May act as legal assistant coverage upon completion of training
