The Additive Technology and Manufacturing Engineer Intern works with Additive Engineers and Technicians to develop and improve our metal additive manufacturing processes and products for GE Gas Power. This includes working with various additive modalities but primarily using our latest laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) technology.
Key deliverables may include:
- Own several Continuous Improvement projects to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost of our Metal Additive Printing and Post-Printing Process including learning and using lean concepts as well as experimentation for data driven decisions.
- Work with Additive technicians to understand printer and equipment operation, process limitations, while seeking opportunities to improve the parameters and process.
- Own multiple metal prototype workflows of test hardware apparatus supporting our advanced gas turbine combustion designs for our decarbonization mission or other key hardware. Set up build files, paperwork, printing, post processing, part inspection, and any compensation or improvements that need to be made for subsequent prints. Own the part routing and ensure parts get completed in a timely manner.
- Own our internal polymer printer operation receiving requests, quoting cost and delivery, execution and delivery of polymer prints and basic machine troubleshooting and material procurement.
- Learn and apply support and slicing software to create additive build files including learning and applying Design for Additive Manufacturing (DFAM) principles and using Magics & NX as well as use advanced tools/simulations packages developed buy our Advanced Research Center.

- Deep metal additive process and product expertise including design for additive
- 3D Modeling experience
- Exposure to Lean 6 Sigma concepts, experimentation, and data driven decisions for process improvement

Basic Qualifications:
-Minimum of 4.0/5.0 GPA.
-Currently pursuing a bachelors or masters degree in: Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering. Computer, Data or Material Science degrees.
- US Citizen or Green Card holder permitted to work on US export-controlled technology
- Ability and willingness to travel international and domestic

Internship Outcomes:
In support of GE Vernova's Gas Power Business, this controls engineering position is responsible for developing, validating, and productizing advanced gas turbine controls solutions. During the internship, you'll have the opportunity to develop control strategies and algorithms to improve the performance, emissions, operability, and reliability of gas turbines responsible for powering residential households, AI data centers, and manufacturing complexes around the world.
Potential projects include developing a tool to assist in tuning a dynamic system. Investigating and resolving gas turbine core engine control loop instabilities by determining optimal gain settings. Verifying PI gain settings on a real time physics-based simulation model of the gas turbine.
Primary Skills Developed:
- Knowledge of gas turbine operation and application software
- Understanding of the controls development process from requirements development, control algorithm/strategy design, to validation testing
- System level thinking
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment across multiple design engineering teams of various disciplines.
Basic Qualifications:
-Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline. The gas turbine controls organization is composed of engineers of various disciplines (electrical, mechanical, chemical, aerospace, and computer).
-Minimum GPA of 4.0/5.0.
Desired Qualifications:
- Understanding of classical control theory and PID tuning
- Experience developing and testing PLC logic
- Experience using MATLAB and coding in Python.
