Maintains confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA standards and complies with all federal, state, and institutional guidelines.

Interact with patients or patient accounts as needed to complete various customer service functions, including establishing payment plans, collecting payment, screening for financial assistance, resolving billing issues or inquiries, researching bad addresses, and updating demographic information.

Open, sort and process mail and insurance/patient correspondence as needed.
Facilitate claim submission and follow-up as needed for successful billing and acceptance or payment of claims.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
Respond to customer quote requests by sourcing products from inventory or external suppliers.
Build quotes that create customer value and profitability for MRC Global.
Identify and pursue sales opportunities to support overall growth.
Engage proactively with customers, using product knowledge to recommend solutions.
Use MRC Global systems/software for quotes, order processing, vendor POs, and related tasks.
Adhere to customer contract requirements (pricing, freight, delivery, KPIs). Monitor shipping/delivery status and communicate updates to customers.
Resolve customer concerns using a problem-solving approach.
Ensure quoted products comply with approved manufacturer lists (AML) or specifications.
Reference customer guides and consult with internal/external resources to enhance service.

Required Experience

Under the direction of the Central Business Office Director and the direct supervision of the Manager and/or Supervisor, the Associate Billing and Collections Representative is responsible for ensuring correct coding initiatives are met for clean claim submission and correction of claim billed and collected on behalf of Covenant. This individual addresses claim edits, files all claims on either a UB-04 (RHC) or 1500 (835/837 file formats) and completes follow-up on outstanding accounts. In addition, this individual identifies functional issues and reports them to the appropriate leader.

Position Summary
The Medical Biller & Coder is responsible for accurate and compliant coding, charge review, claim preparation, and follow-up to ensure timely reimbursement for hospital and clinic services. This position also plays a critical role in identifying trends, documentation gaps, coding issues, and new regulatory or payer updates-and communicating these findings through staff education.
This position works under the direct supervision of the Business Office & Billing Operations Manager, who provides oversight, training, and direction for all billing, coding, registration cross-training, and revenue cycle improvement efforts.
Because rural hospitals require team members who can flex across departments, this role is also cross-trained in patient registration and may assist with front desk duties as needed to support patient flow and operational coverage.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Medical Billing & Coding
Assign accurate ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and modifier codes based on clinical documentation for hospital, RHC, PT/OT, ER, ambulance, and specialty services.
Review claims for completeness, compliance, and proper charge capture prior to submission.
Verify medical necessity and ensure documentation supports billed services.
Monitor queues and clearinghouse rejections and payer denials; correct and resubmit timely.
Post insurance payments, adjustments, and denials as needed.
Track coding updates, regulatory changes, payer policy revisions, and CMS guidelines.
Perform internal audits of clinical documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Follow all processes, workflows, and directives established by the Business Office & Billing Operations Manager.
Trend Analysis & Quality Improvement
Identify recurring errors in registration, documentation, coding, or billing.
Recognize patterns that impact reimbursement, compliance, or patient satisfaction.
Report trends to the Business Office & Billing Operations Manager for review and corrective action planning.
Maintain logs that support internal audits, education tracking, and improvement efforts.
Staff Education & Clinical Support
Provide education-under the direction and approval of the Business Office & Billing Operations Manager-to clinical and clinical support staff regarding documentation requirements, coding issues, and guideline changes.
Help providers and staff understand coding requirements, Medicare/RHC/CAH-specific rules, and proper use of modifiers.
Develop easy-to-follow education materials, tip sheets, and workflows when assigned.
Participate in staff meetings, huddles, or in-service training at the manager's request.
Cross-Training in Registration & Front-End Duties
Maintain competency in clinic and hospital registration workflows.
Verify insurance eligibility, obtain demographics, and collect copays when needed.
Assist with insurance updates, coverage verification, and accurate account creation.
Support Registration staff during high-volume periods, vacations, call-ins, or shortages.
Promote accurate front-end processes to ensure clean claims and reduce rework.
Rural Hospital Flexibility & Support
Help in other revenue cycle or operational areas as directed by the Business Office & Billing Operations Manager.
Provide back-up support for AR, medical records, credentialing/enrollment, payment posting, or patient navigation when needed.
Maintain knowledge of CAH Method 2 billing, RHC AIR rules, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid MCO policies, and commercial payer requirements.

Your Contributions (include, but are not limited to):
Creates product acceptance and manages sales and product growth through education opportunities in targeted accounts
Effectively executes sales force strategies and marketing plans to meet or exceed sales objectives through face-to-face and/or virtual communications via in-office visits, in-service presentations and speaker programs
Creates and implements successful strategies to further penetrate and segment the psychiatric and movement disorder marketplace, consisting, where applicable, of Psychiatrists, Neurologists, Community Mental Health Clinics (CMHC) and Long Term Care (LTC)
Effectively uses promotional resources and budget
Establishes and maintains excellent communication and sound working relationships with co-workers and cross-functional partners, including managed care, Medical Science Liaisons, and medical communications
Demonstrates honesty and integrity while modeling behaviors consistent with company standards, values and corporate compliance policies
Identifies territory-specific opportunities and barriers to ensure product and company success
Develops local Opinion Leader relationships to achieve aligned objectives
Performs all responsibilities following the highest ethical standards, including FDA guidelines and best practices for the pharmaceutical/biotech industry
Effectively utilizes account selling strategies to achieve goals through building relationships with and meeting the needs of all members of the patients' care team (Pharm D, MD/NP/PA, LPN/RN)
Manages relationships with important customers, including key opinion leaders, local professional groups and advocacy groups, long-term care facilities, local and regional payers, and pharmacies

Requirements:
BS/BA degree in science or related field and 4+ years of commercial pharma/biotech or related experience, including 3+ years of specialty pharmaceutical or LTC, Psychology, or Neurology sales experience is highly desired. Long Term Care or specialty pharmacy distribution experience is strongly preferred. Psychiatry, neurology or antipsychotic experience strongly preferred. Experience with business systems, salesforce automation platforms, and other business intelligence tools (e.g., Salesforce.com, Oracle database, SAP, Business Objects, COGNOS, QlikView, Veeva, etc.) OR
Master's degree in science or related field and 2+ years of similar experience noted above
Strong sales and account management skills with solid business acumen and exceptional communication (verbal and written)
Proven record of sales performance and goal achievement, including recognition or ranking awards in specialty pharma or biotech
Demonstrated success launching products in complex, competitive markets
Deep understanding of healthcare regulatory and compliance environments
Entrepreneurial mindset and experience in dynamic or start-up settings
Proficient in business systems and CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce, Veeva, Oracle, SAP, QlikView)
Must reside within assigned territory and possess a valid driver's license with a clean record

Understand reimbursement structures (Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care) and their influence on therapy access
Collaborate with Market Access to address payer and fulfillment barriers
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with Marketing, Medical Affairs, and Market Access to tailor account-specific solutions
Align with field partners to ensure consistent messaging and execution across the LTC ecosystem
Represent Neurocrine with professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to improving patient outcomes
Required Knowledge & Skills
Proven ability to engage and align multiple decision-makers across complex healthcare environments
Strong grasp of LTC operations, pharmacy models, and post-acute reimbursement
Consultative selling expertise with strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities
Skilled in project management and multitasking across complex initiatives
Proficiency with CRM and analytics tools (Veeva, Salesforce, IQVIA)
Preferred Experience
Sales experience in long-term care, institutional, or organized customer settings
Background in neurology, psychiatry, or movement disorders
Familiarity with CoverMyMeds and LTC pharmacy fulfillment
Knowledge of CMS guidelines affecting psychotropic medication use in skilled nursing facilities

The annual base salary we reasonably expect to pay is $123,100.00-$168,000.00. Individual pay decisions depend on various factors, such as primary work location, complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. In addition, this position is eligible participate in the Company's quarterly incentive compensation plan, which provides the opportunity to earn additional compensation based on individual performance results. This position is also eligible to participate in our equity based long term incentive program.
