Responsibilities
Installs and/or and relocates aerial and underground cable including fiber optic, transportation, distribution and drop cable. Ensures that it meets industry standards, is technically reliable and performed in timely and cost efficient manner.
Assist with traffic control.
Broom/Shovel work assisting crew in underground utility construction.
Assist crew members in trenching, digging, pulling and removing material.
Operate power equipment for demolition, concrete removal, grading, truck/dumpster loading, site clean-up and other general tasks using company and/or rental equipment.
Performs all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment.
Provides support for line crews during all phases of construction activity.
Qualifications
2+ years of experience OR equivalent training as a lineman/trainee/apprentice and have the knowledge to detect power space violations and safety issues.
Must be able to climb pole to cable height using pole climber gaffs.
Current valid driver's license (preferably a CDL A) with a clean driving record is required.
Must be able to lift, reach, dig and carry heavy objects; with frequent lifting up to 50 pounds and infrequent lifting of up to 100 pounds.
This position requires significant time doing manual labor functions, walking on uneven ground, working in tight spaces and in general, being overall physically demanding. Must be able to perform heavy physical work and perform duties in a safe and efficient manner.
Must be available for overtime weekday and/or weekend and be willing to travel as required.

* Plan and perform hand and automatic arc welding operations to weld similar and some dissimilar metals in all positions for structural and mechanical strength. Work involves gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux cored arc welding (FCAW), submerged arc welding (SAW), and flame cutting operations.
* Equipment used includes a wide variety of welding positioners, stands, fixtures, tables, jib boom suspended welders and a variety of weld wire in coils, spools or drums and applicable flux materials. Material processed consists of various grades of carbon steel and is handled by hand, lift truck, jib boom hoist, or overhead bridge crane. Basic use of pneumatic tools is required.
* Receive direction from Supervisor relative to work assignment from either a Supervisor, Weld Engineers, or Weld Instructors. Written work instructions are from detail and weld assembly drawings, shop orders, and schedules, to plan and perform assigned welding operation within Internal Supply.
* Interpret drawing and shop orders to determine fixture and welding requirements. Fabricate holding fixtures as required, with consideration of weldment dimensional tolerances. Select weld wire and process in accordance with specified procedures. Set up work on table, floor, stand, positioner, or prescribed fixture. Secure with blocks, clamps, and related holding devices to tack and weld in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and procedures.
* All Welds should be made to meet Volvo Weld Specifications, per ISO document, WPR-005.
* Detect and report faulty operation, defective material, questionable drawing requirements, and unusual conditions to proper Supervisor. Perform work of acceptable quality requirements. Collaborate with other welders, as assigned, in performing work such as submerged arc welding of drums. Maintain working area in neat and orderly condition and report all production information in the appropriate computer system.
